We measure everything we can measure. Because we run a weekly beta release cycle and we cut on the same day, the lead time is knowable even before you commit as the time from "now" until the cut. We cut alpha once a day every day, so in general some human is seeing the new code by tomorrow. As a rule, I try to de-emphasize devs structuring their work around the release cycle as it incentivizes last-minute heroics. While the realities of the app stores dictate a weekly cycle, It's better in the long run to ignore that and set a quality/functional bar for code rather than a timeline
