Upcoming change: Gradle Forums moving to unified Gradle identity We’re updating how authentication works on the Gradle Forums. What’s changing Historically, forum accounts have been tied to Plugin Portal authentication. We are now migrating to a unified Gradle Identity, powered by Auth0. This unified identity will be used across Gradle services, including DPE University, Forums, and more. What this means for you • You will log in using the new unified Gradle identity • Existing accounts will be automatically merged where possible • You may be asked to authenticate with a different GitHub app if you used this method • You’ll be able to use more login methods • If you use password login, your credentials will remain the same Why we’re making this changeImproved security through a modern identity platform • Simpler and more consistent login experience across Gradle services • Better foundation for future improvements Current vs. target stateToday: Forum access is tied to Plugin Portal authentication • Target: A single unified Gradle identity across all services (DPE University, Plugin Portal, Forums, etc.) What’s next • The Plugin Portal will be the next service to adopt the unified Gradle identity, with more updates to follow.

What does
• You may be asked to authenticate with a different GitHub app if you used this method
mean? Which method? What means to "authenticate with a different GitHub app"? I don't remember authenticating with a GitHub app when signing into the forums.
v
Currently, there are two options to log in to Plugin Portal and Forums: • Regular user-password • GitHub OAuth For the latter, there is currently a Gradle Plugin Portal app. It will be changed to a different one. You can check your apps in Developer Settings -> Applications -> Authorized OAuth Apps. If you only use the user-password method to log in to PP/Forums, you will not be prompted for anything about GitHub.

Ah, I see, thanks. I think I created a login before GitHub login was possible or at least did not use it.

We are starting this work and have disabled user registration for now.

And we are done with the migration! Forums use Gradle Identity now, and are not connected to the Plugin Portal. The Plugin Portal migration to Gradle Identity will follow soon. Feedback is welcome. And if you experience any issues with login, send us an email to plugin-portal-support@gradle.com
v
Does that mean that currently if I log out I cannot log in anymore until that migration is finished?
v
W.r.t. forums - the migration is finished, you should be able log in/log out and your identity will be preserved. For PP - you can still login there as well using PP login form. Later, we will migrate PP to Gradle Identity as well and it would be a single login flow

Ok, works, thanks

We're currently deploying Gradle Identity for the Plugin Portal. You will not be able to login to it or upload plugins for some time.
We identified an issue with the production DB, so this migration has been postponed. The Plugin portal is operational again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We plan to deploy Gradle Identity for the Plugin Portal in half an hour. You will not be able to log in to it or upload plugins for some time.
And the migration is complete. The plugin portal is now using Gradle Identity for login. The plugin upload is available again. If you experience any issues with login, send us an email to plugin-portal-support@gradle.com
