What purchase / expense stands out to you as adding the most value to your life over the last year? In other words, what was especially "worth it"?

We just replaced our 17 year old stove and microwave, the difference has been night and day. Apparently it doesn’t take 20 mins to boil pot of water…

I'm gonna go with our first BBQ grill. Runner up was an electric toothbrush

2021 for me was definitely the BBQ grill. I got a traeger for smoking and grilling For me 2022 was getting an au pair. I never knew this was a child care option that existed, but it's cheaper (considering everything) than other child care options we had before, with more hours, and a ton more flexibility. The stress levels in the house are dramatically lower πŸ˜‚

Cheap but decent Chromebook on sale, to replace an old sluggish laptop we anyways only needed for simple web browsing.

I’ll have to mirror your response and say a nanny/cleaning help. 2021 we had someone come for an hour a day, 2022 after our second child, we had someone come for almost 25 hours a week on average. It seriously changed our lives for the better.

What's an au pair?
m
Its hard to explain bc it's a unique relationship, but here is the best I've come up with so far. International exchange student who is paid (a federally determined amount) to watch your kids up to 45 hours a week. You provide room and board and pay the program fee. Flexibility example, we are going away this upcoming shabbos and going out motzei shabbos. She comes with us on the trip, she gets to do whatever she wants shabbos then comes back to watch the kids after and we can go out. Child care that travels with you. Here is one of the matching programs to learn more. https://culturalcare.com/

But I think au pair can be its own thread later πŸ˜‚
@acoustic-sunset-40897 oh man I love dude wipes. I recently stopped ordering them though to save money by installing a bidet for less than 100 bucks πŸ˜‚

We should have a #childcare channel for all the interesting options πŸ™‚
m
I think we can bundle that into #C04F2S0H63B maybe? Until we reach 2000 members and need to break down our channels even more maybe haha.

Coat hooks for the wall. Getting the kids to hang up their coats on hangers wasn't working, this is so.much easier and keeps the house so much neater!

If this is about gadgets or specific items: hands down a Betty Crocker pizza oven. We use it to cook so many things. Eggs, toast bread or bagels, sear tuna. We even bought a second one for fleishigs to do everything a frying pan would have done and more. Schnitzel, meat. It's extremely easy to clean and a breeze to use.

@thankful-angle-58448 even without a receipt, the company should cover that issue and stand behind their product if you call them. If you have a πŸ‹.
w
@thankful-angle-58448 that's strange. Sorry to hear that. Ours is great. Is yours name brand? I've seen knock offs that look extremely similar and they had that problem.
t
@mysterious-tomato-10057 good idea, I'll try. @wooden-belgium-47527 yep, name brand.
w
Another good one we did was port Discovery.

That reminds me - I got a new vacuum cleaner that I'm so happy with
m
I got a new vacuum cleaner that was expensive enough that I'm telling myself I'm happy with it🀣
a
It may seem petty, but various organizing racks and hangers for household items made things a lot neater and easier for me, super happy I did it.
