In YNAB, how do I create a delayed start to start saving for a target? Say I have a target of $2000 for camp in June. I don't want to be bugged saving for it until January and I don't want the account to show underfunded in the months before January. Any tips how to accomplish this?

Since this goes against the purpose of YNAB, namely, equalizing your spending across all months so to create a consistent monthly allocation of funds, I don't believe there is a way to do this.

don't create the target until June, just add a note in the category for what to put in the target

Thank you all!

@mysterious-tomato-10057 if you pay tuition over 10 months, then it makes sense not to spread camp over the full 12 months

It depends. With a YNAB mindset, it is probably best to pay tuition once a year and get a discount (work with the school and a rov) but I pay tuition at the beginnign and they let me use my credit card if i pay all at once so i provide 3% but i hear why you might want to act as if camp is a substitute for tuition for those two months. Ideally, I would still even I paid tuition over 10 months, I would spread both camp and school out of 12 months in YNAB despite only paying it 10/12 and 2/12 months respectively.

i don't get the mindset. If you need to save 1200 by June starting in January, you're putting away 200 a month. If you start now it's 120 a month, which is less "hurt", and more manageable. if for some reason your priorities don't allow saving that 120 now, you could snooze every month until january

Personally, the snooze goal feature is not for mandatory fixed expenses that are inflexible.
But use the tool however helps you the most.
Snoozing an inflexible goal for me feels like I'm just hiding from the facts.
