@mysterious-tomato-10057 I have some budgeting questions about the way your budget is broken down here. I see you have something like groceries broken down very minutely. I'm trying to understand how practical it is to do that - I assume every receipt needs to be looked over to properly break it into its appropriate categories.

Can you post in that thread instead and share to channel instead of creating a new thread.

My question is really around budgeting, not your specific budget. I want to know if I should be more nuanced in my budget and I'm trying to understand the pros and cons. I.e. right now I just have one "Groceries" budget.

Ari, being more nuanced in your budget means paying closer attention to how you spend your money and making adjustments based on your priorities. Here are some pros and cons of being more nuanced in your budget: Pros:Better Control: You can have better control over your finances by knowing exactly where your money is going. • Achieve Goals: It helps you achieve your financial goals, like paying off debt or saving for something special. • Flexibility: You can adjust your spending in one area to allow for more spending in another area that is more important to you at the moment. • Reduce Waste: It can help you reduce wasteful spending by making you more aware of your spending habits. Cons:Time-Consuming: It can be time-consuming to track and adjust your budget frequently. • Stressful: It might feel stressful to constantly monitor and adjust your spending. • Less Spontaneity: Being very detailed in your budget might make it harder to be spontaneous with your spending. In summary, being more nuanced in your budget can help you manage your money better and reach your goals, but it might take more time and effort. It's all about finding the right balance for you.

Pro More efficiency and less waste: I have found that being more nuanced helps me have a better sense of how much each thing costs and what I actually have in the house. Fewer things are going to waste because I have a better sense of when we actually need things. We have fewer snacks for no reason to avoid going over budget. I am finally using up the random stuff just sitting in our cabinet because I don't want to go overbudget in those categories. Also, you can make sure you're actually saving up for items you buy in bulk (e.g. if you buy chicken every other month, you don't accidentally use up your chicken money on snacks). Cons -it's still not exact (at least for me, when I tried being EXACT and literally sitting with a calculator it would not get done so I round). -it takes a LITTLE extra time. It literally takes 30 seconds when you round for each receipt

Ok I was stuck on being exact (my OCD) - sounds like rounding makes that process minimal. Thank you for the feedback.
