Is anyone familiar with Personal Capital (now owned by Empower)? It's been accumulating transactions that never get processed and there doesn't seem to be any customer service. Does YNAB aggregate investment accounts and/or do any sort of planning (especially retirement)? Thanks.
m
I was a user of Personal Capital user for many years before I moved over to Right Capital. YNAB does aggregate investment accounts but it is very much not its intended use case and does not do any retirement planning. Right Capital does what Personal Capital does, and a lot more, as it’s an industry standard for retirement modeling using monte carlo (which is what personal capital does also, but with a lot fewer features) I can give you an account with frum.finance with right capital and set the account to self directed if you don’t want me to look at it ever.
You might also want to consider Projection Labs (frum.finance also provides lisenses for that one). It’s monte carlo is better than both RightCapital and PersonalCapital, but it doesn’t do account aggregation.
f
Account aggregation would be a must have for me. Is there a cost for RightCapital?
m
It’s paid for by frum.finance, no cost to you.
f
Right Capital tracks and categories transactions, correct?
m
Yes, but that feature has much to be desired. I would personally recommend using YNAB for transactions and budgeting and right capital for monte carlo (retirement projects), but you definitely could use the right capital transaction feature if you’d like to.
it does what you might need, but its not a sleek and powerful as I get with YNAB

It sounds like Right Capital is worth a try and if I need more features for transactions and budgeting I'll consider adding YNAB. Does Right Capital or YNAB capture activity within an investment account - like interest and dividend payments?
m
I believe they both do, but I have never used YNAB for investment accounts, i only use it for spending accounts. My investment accounts are all in right capital

Can I set up the account if I want it self-directed or do you need to do that?
m
i will mark the account that way after you sign up
For clarity, I will have access to your financials but marking it as self directed is my personal promise not to look.
