# Eritrea Is Not Against Yemen. Eritrea Is Against the Colonization of Yemen.
Asmara supports a sovereign and united Yemen that rejects the UAE/US-Israeli project to carve it into base colonies.
The west and their imperialist lapdogs say Eritrea is against Yemen.
They say Eritrea supports the Houthis as Iranian proxies.
They also say Eritrea is destabilizing the Red Sea.
All of it is a lie.
Here is what Eritrea actually says in public, from the Foreign Ministry and the President's own mouth.
First: There is no military solution in Yemen.
In September 2026, Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh told Middle East Eye: "There is no military option in Yemen, which must be given a chance to be peaceful." He added that no foreign power will be able to "subdue" the Yemeni people.
Second: Eritrea wants a united Yemen instead of a fragmented one.
Saleh said the problem is that Yemen is not united under a cohesive government. He stated plainly: "Yemen is non-existent. The official government has no control. There is no 'Yemen'."
Read that carefully. Eritrea's position is simple, let Yemen be Yemen. Let Yemenis resolve their own affairs. Because a fragmented Yemen cannot manage the Red Sea, secure Bab el-Mandeb, and cannot resist foreign domination.
A united Yemen is in Eritrea's interest. A divided Yemen is in the interest of the empire
Third: Eritrea rejects the UAE/US-Israeli project to militarize Yemeni islands.
In November 2025, President Isaias Afwerki gave a televised interview warning that an emerging "shadow alliance" linking Ethiopia, the UAE, and Israel is reshaping Red Sea security around militarized Yemeni islands and Somali ports. He stated that Yemen's islands have become "the main battleground in a regional power struggle" and that Red Sea security "must be handled by littoral states, not foreign bases."
He specifically named Socotra, Mayon, and Zuqar — Yemeni islands — as targets of foreign military construction. He warned that this build-up threatens Eritrea, Egypt, Somalia, and any state that depends on the waterway.
Afwerki also addressed the UAE directly. Reports have confirmed that the UAE has been building military bases on Socotra and Mayun islands — Yemeni territory — as part of a security belt stretching from Socotra to the Somali coast.
"There is no justification for proposals to establish foreign military bases or for direct military interventions targeting any coastal state in the Red Sea under the pretext of protecting maritime security." — President Isaias Afwerki
Eritrea's position is anti-imperialist, not anti-Yemeni.
Eritrea strictly opposes the colonization of Yemen. The imperialist west and their proxies seek the transformation of Yemeni islands into foreign military bases, the fragmentation of Yemen into proxy zones, and the use of the Red Sea as a battleground for US, UAE, and Israeli power projection.
The UAE has built a chain of military and intelligence sites from Socotra to the Somali coast — runways, radar, drone facilities — all designed to monitor and control Bab el-Mandeb. The west claims it’s "security cooperation." But it’s actually colonial infrastructure dressed in the language of maritime protection.
Eritrea refuses to participate in this project.
Eritrea refuses to rent out its coastline.
Eritrea refuses to let the Red Sea become a Western lake.
Eritrea has not joined the US-UK bombing campaign against Yemen.
Eritrea has not hosted foreign bases for strikes on Yemen.
Eritrea has not endorsed the Saudi-UAE intervention.
Why? Because Eritrea knows what Yemenis know. The war on Yemen has always been about control of the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb strait, and the shipping lanes that connect Asia to Europe.
