Hi, question to freelance writers - how did you get your first freelance writing clients?

I answered a similar question on Terkel so I’ll just post the link to the final blog post 😅 https://www.fleurishfreelance.com/blog/10-ways-to-get-freelance-clients/

Through a couple of friends at a coworking space. I was very open about transitioning to freelance writing and looking for my first clients. They gave me some easy, low paid, low impact work and I was off!

Years ago now, but for me it was via Twitter, and without even actively marketing myself (just updated my bio, nothing else). Since then—up to the agency I now work full-time for—it was word of mouth.

Ad on a Fb group. Check out groups on fb like “ Freelance content writers”. But make sure you have a portfolio (if you don’t have one, write a couple in google docs on a subject and show that)

I started by pitching magazines. Writing for print gave me clips. Then, when I transitioned to writing online content for businesses, I had something to show them. Now, all of my business clients come from inbound leads from LinkedIn or my website.

@purple-monitor-35762 Coworking Bansko in Bulgaria. I generally go to coworking spaces for the community, as you never know what kind of opportunities can come up. And I do my best work at home.
