Hey everyone! I just started a new role yesterday (🎉) and I'm getting ready to set initial one on ones with folks on my team and across the company to start to get to know people and assess the current situation with community. What questions would you ask in these initial meetings to get the best sense of what's happening at a new (to you) company?
j
I’d ask: • How much do you know about community at Pure Storage today? • How does community impact and/or partner with you and your function today? • How would you like the partnership between community and your function evolve in the future? • Do you have any questions to better understand what community looks like today at Pure Storage?

Thanks Joel!

Hope those are helpful, Briana!

Not a question but I read The first 90 days before I started my last job and I would highly recommend. It helped me think through questions exactly like this and set myself up for success. A few other questions to consider also: • In a dream world what would community look like here? • how can community contribute to you goals In the org?

Thanks Allie! I'll have to check out that book.

Definitely ask for their perspectives on a) what top-level objectives the community is supposed to advance for the business and b) how well the community actually advances those interests & objectives (+ any metrics they can share to support their thinking). Might also ask them what they love most about the communities they participate in outside of the business (i.e. not yours :)

I like asking about their current biggest frustrations too, as it: 1. sets the precedent that people will tell you their honest opinion on things 2. creates trust early in the relationship 3. helps people get things off their chest (as a lot of the time they dont feel they can say these things) 4. is a no-lose situation for you, as worst case scenario is that you cant change it, but at least you can show them you listened and tried. Then you can keep that info in back pocket and continue to try and change it over time @Briana McDougall
