HappyMonday, everyone! At InsideOut, we are planning to redesign our Slack community channels entirely in the coming weeks. I’d love to know what channels you all think are nonnegotiable for great engagement, regardless of community type. What are must have channels in Slack, specifically? (FWIW, we are an invite only community of senior in-house design leaders around the U.S. So we must have a handful of city-chapter channels. But we are also trying to provide members with a sense of our national community that’s wider than just their local city groups.) What channels should we be considering to boost engagement for the whole community?

We’ve gone in a very minimal direction—just general and announcements. Our community is small, and I didn’t want fear of posting in the wrong place to prevent anyone from posting! I plan to re-evaluate in the case that we start getting too noisy/busy, but that’s not an issue yet

thats what i have opted for here too after quite a few iterations. the private pod groups have been most successful in driving engagement through being topic-speciifc

Great point, both. So, Announcements is a space where only Admins can post about the community itself, and General is a catch-all space for members to post absolutely everything else?

I haven’t restricted the announcements channel, so that community members can respond with their questions if they have them, but that’s the intention!

So far for us we literally have just the below as public channels, then rest are private: #1-introduce-yourself (just for intros) #2-ask-for-help (for any question focused on needing help) #3-feedback-and-requests (for people to ask us questions about the membership - but I might change this soon) #4-ch-announcements (just for event-related announcements from us) Tried to make it as clear as poss and this has been most successful setup so far, though ill probs evolve it a little more soon again
