The customs domains don’t implement an S3 API, they’re just public access

So what u mean is I can't use that custom domain to edit my object stored in R2?

    Nope

what do u mean? It can work or not? Since If using S3, it will make the endpoint become bucket_name.xxx.yyy.com instead of xxxx.com/your_object_id

S3 Operations are not supported through custom domains at this time.

So this way is just serving for websites use instead of S3 right?

    Yes

Or well, more static assets than websites

Since it doesn’t have any routing functionality

omg that live migration feature can be moved up to the "features now available"

Is lifecycles still roadmap or has there been any news on that yet?

I thought there were no Egress costs? There are Read operation cost prices listed here. https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/platform/pricing/

No Egress in terms of being billed for bandwidth
  • h

    HardAtWork

    02/25/2023, 11:38 PM
You are billed a flat rate per request

An egress cost is getting charged for moving data outside of a Cloud. Like with S3, if you have a 10 MB Image, each time that image is requested by a web browser, you'd be paying S3's GET operation cost + Egress Bandwidth Cost. With R2, you just pay for the operation, regardless of size

Re: the TOS and caching issue, CF now mention it in their docs: https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/data-access/public-buckets/#caching "Enabling cache for all file types --------------------------------- By default, only certain file types are cached. To cache all files in your bucket, you must set a Cache Everything page rule. For more information on default Cache behavior and how to customize it, refer to Default Cache Behavior" Pretty definitive answer- no probs with using Cache Everything. That's the deciding factor for us to move from Wasabi! We'll probably still wait till regions can be selected in the UI though. Hopefully that's not too far away...

So to be very nitpicky: This is not a TOS clarification. This is explaining that by default, Cloudflare only caches web asset-related content like CSS, JPG, JS. ZIP. You need to set cache rules if you want it to cache things like HTML, JSON, TXT, or other types that might be dynamic.

But as others said, multiple orange names in here have posted that R2 + any file type cached is good, because you're paying for R2
  • b

    02/26/2023, 6:13 AM
Sure. Just saying it's unlikely they'd suggest switching on cache everything for a bucket if it wasn't allowed

My R2 download speeds have recently been really slow. I'm getting speeds of like 20 KB/s when usually my R2 downloads are at least 1 or 2 MB/s. Is my content being throttled? Or has the data been moved to a different data centre far away from my location? Even if the latter is the case, 20 KB/s is still really slow for a transfer across the world.
