I think most people have more than 1 bucket/folder

I don't think people like to hear that when they are paying a lot for this service

Like kain said, location hints have only been available for 3 months (?) so they have been using the locations of the buckets they had already since R2 went public

And yes it's not great that you can't just choose the location of your bucket outright, but it hasn't been available at all yet

and now they are stuck at that location forever, unless they want to change their paths...so for them the location hints might as well not exist

at minimum the UI needs to be updated asap to let people aware of this limitations

If you have hardcore data jurisdiction requirements, you can't use R2 right now

a huge red warning when you create the bucket

to confirm that this bucket will never be able to change location with the same name and to double check your location

Same name can't change location, that is correct. You set the location on sign up.

I actually just went and let rclone create the buckets for me... because i had no idea this was a thing

and now i'm stuck forever

so the documentation needs to be heavily updated to prevent mistakes like this

Indeed you are stuck with that name, and R2 will use your IP location to give you the closest bucket, depending your location. Unless you explicitly ask for a location. https://developers.cloudflare.com/r2/buckets/data-location/

this should be at the bucket creation page

not hidden in a documentation page most people won't read before creating a bucket

it wouldn't even cross my mind that recreating the bucket won't change the location... i'd have tried like 2-3 times before finding about this, then i'd look it up thinking it was some kind of error or bug

I honestly don't know the technical reasoning for this, but I assume that will change at some point, as it's kinda a basic thing you do, delete a file/folder and rename it the same thing.

@denisep that survey doesn't have rclone as an option to interact with cloudflare! and rclone is the most popular open source tool to deal with the cloud nowadays. If you look here you'll see that many (most?) are using rclone and r2 for some task

This is the direct feedback form & would probably be better to raise a feature such as having the same name on buckets

I have been running some tests using the web interface

and sometimes the location hint is just ignored

so that's even worse...
