Can we create folders in R2 bucket and store files in that folder ?

There is no concept of folders, you store a file under an entire key like
    images/origina/1.png
. Although the dashboard and other apps will represent prefixes like
    images/
    as though they were folders.

Hi there okay I'm the owner of Wolf Territories Grid a big virtual world, the nightmare for us is storing all those assets, we've now started deploying servers in other locations - up till now the servers have all been in dusseldorf germany. It doesn't matter where I ping the R2 address from i get about 1.2 ms ping times. That's pretty cool .But how is the data distrubted? So for instance will my users in the USA get a worse experience than those in europe? It's about 1.6 million objects and up to now they've been running on our own servers using minio object storage

but the cost benefit of moving to the cloudflare cloud is incredible

Buckets are only located in one place right now. If you use custom domains for a bucket, you get the full Cloudflare CDN. So uploading may be not as great for people distant from the bucket, but retrieval should still be awesome worldwide since it uses the CDN

Yeah in that case, you should locate the bucket close to the uploader or the server that manages the files, and then just use a custom domain and the CDN. Make sure to also set up Cache Rules for your R2 domain

Choose a bucket location that is closer to the server/whatever is going to run rclone to manage the files

will carry on testing - so the custom domain in fact just allows direct retreivel of the fiiles

    through the cdn

    05/13/2023, 8:13 AM
so the issue here is that the servers could be anywhere and they need to pull data from the object storage as fast as possible so I love the idea of pulling it through a cdn

even if the uploads are "slow" lols
  • k

    Karew

    05/13/2023, 8:13 AM
Yeah often that is still acceptable
  • k

    05/13/2023, 8:14 AM
So pick a bucket location that is close to more of the uploading servers or the most busy one

And the rest will kind of just be whatever

Youll need to use the AWS cli: https://discord.com/channels/595317990191398933/940663374377783388/1100486682593214554

How plausible is to request unlimited R2 buckets (docs says max 1000) under the 20 or 200$ plan ?
