Where we are
We're heads-down on turning the product from a prototype into something that can carry real families at scale. The beta ship target moved from Jul 15 → Aug 15, and the bar is deliberately high: support 10,000 families / 25,000 devices at launch (≈$3M ARR at $25/family/mo). We're running daily 10am + 5pm syncs to surface gaps early. Foundational pieces are landing — dynamic VPN config end-to-end works with node switching confirmed, fail-gracefully behavior is in, and the multi-node backend is nearly buttoned up. The Self-Control app was resubmitted to the App Store (rejected over Apple's new parental-controls metadata question). The Research Partner Program (formerly "data program") funnel is complete and ready to submit.
The three workstreams
• Agent (Vince): Beta goal is an observation that passes a blind Turing test (Royce judges) plus a parent agent that manages policies and describes activity accurately. Parent-agent simulation tooling + eval set is the current priority; "perfect agent" target still Jul 22, freeing ~2 weeks of surplus capacity after.
• VPN/Infra (Rob + Mike): Theme is resilience & disaster recovery, not features — multi-node, multi-region (assign-at-onboarding, no dynamic swapping), Redis failover, remote kill switch. Then subscription management, security audit, and load testing at 25k devices.
• Foreground inference (Rob): Gate is >0.85 GPI for 5 consecutive days on the Research Partner Program, backed by an on-call scaffold (Royce + Luca) landing week of Jul 13.
The 3-month gameplan
1. Now → Aug 15 (beta): Hit launch gates — 14 days uptime + 14 days reliability + foreground validation. Stand up support/observability so we know about outages before parents do. Run the 20-person Research Partner Program (10 days 100% uptime) for ground-truth data.
2. Aug 15 → September (pre-GA): Keep the waitlist/exclusive-membership funnel intact, run Van Westendorp pricing once users have hands-on time, sustain Substack + video flywheel, and start New Year campaign planning.
3. ~Sep 1 → GA: General availability, with events as potential "takeoff moments" and October press (Vogue edition locks next month) in motion now.
Key tensions to watch
An early release costs us ~80-90% of Mike & Rob's bandwidth to a subscription/scale sprint, slowing live bug response — hence the Aug 15 discipline. Fundraising narrative is weaker with a visibly incomplete product, so clearing the launch gates cleanly is what unlocks both the premium positioning and the Series A story (a unified data warehouse is flagged as "table stakes for a Series A").
