Hey all, I am experiencing tech issues with my laptop. Might not be around as much for a few days

CrowdStrike-related?

A techie without a secondary or more devices??

Lots of folks out there are down...

Crowdstrike. Yes. Patrick I have plenty of devices. Only one is an official Adobe device. And I was a little busy trying to get it fixed. Which it now has been.

Poor support people, I feel for them. All I heard in the background was a litany of voices reading off the access keys for their work machines so people could get into the recovery mode and open notepad to rename one stupid file. Crazypants. But effective!

To clarify on devices, Adobe has strict rules on "byod" and access to Adobe areas. Technically here is not an Adobe area, so I am on here on my personal phone. But much less than when I'm on my laptop. which I'm now ordering a new one of. grin
s
Order a Mac! 🙂

Or a Linux laptop!

Order a Windows laptop, Open the box up, and install FreeBSD or linux. Then install a hypervisor such as VMware workstation or KVM, and install Windows. now register a Windows device for your company's daily driver. Fast forward a dozen years, listen to the IT scream in vain as everyone's laptops are down, most servers are down, and I'm fine. nothing to see here. going to leave a little early as nobody bothered me for anything, as they could not.
m
OK so Linux is not an option. Full stop. It is Windows or Mac, running their natively installed OSes. Sorry Linux stans. ❤️
s
Yup, having worked at Adobe, I expected that 🙂
e
If you have to go with windows, Try to get your hands on Windows 11 enterprise.
m
Yeah, it would be that.
And I have full admin access
e
great, you can tweak the heck out of the OS and debloat it, including forcing the AV settings to start very delayed, which was the cloud strike issue.
s
Shortly after the acquisition, Adobe IT quizzed my team about systems we had in the implementation pipeline because they were Linux with JBoss and MySQL and that wasn't Adobe's "corporate standard"... We eventually got our way, after showing them just how much extra their "corporate standards" were going to cost the company and how it would basically make the service we offered unprofitable 😉

It's no wonder so many of my Macromedia colleagues quit within the first year!
m
If I could run a cloud server and have my machine just be a dumb terminal, I'd do that.
I'm too old to be messing with operating system nonsense. I just need my tools and cute Teams backgrounds lol.
But they refuse to let me use a Chromebook LMAO
s
Oh... do you have to use Teams @ Adobe? I'm so sorry...
1
e
I'm too old not to mess with OSes
m
oh yes Sean. It is the WORST
e
Try using US GOV Teams.
m
I can't even imagine
s
Yeah, we have Office 365 at work so we have Teams... but we pay for Slack and Zoom instead!
e
its about a year behind everyone else.
m
My USAF buddy shudders when I mention it
Whomever at MS added the whole "mute everyone, turn off shares, turn off all cameras" when turning on recording... I just want to talk...
e
We have our whole infrastructure running in tune with US GOV. Its about as much fun as a root canal
m
Oof. I feel for ya.
e
Teams is just bloated Lync (formally skype)
m
Yeah. Lync was not great. And Skype was... also not great LOL
It is all terrible, let's drink.
