Why bother with Oracle anyway? OpenJDK and flip Ellison the bird.

I don't disagree and would like Adobe to officially support the OpenJDK builds from someone.

But, until Adobe officially does support another JDK, meaning they build and test and support with it, it's gotta be Oracle here. Too many variables in the world to sign up for more. That said, a statement from Adobe about the meaning of this really is needed. Charlie Arehart's blog post about these releases doesn't mention that aspect.

If you're paying Adobe for a product, you might as well take advantage of their negotiated support etc. If you're cost-sensitive or especially pro-open solutions, you wouldn't be using Adobe ColdFusion in the first place 😛 (which is why we're using Temurin JDKs and we're currently on JDK 21 in production for everything except our one remaining CFML app which we essentially migrated from ACF to Lucee and now to BoxLang -- and now that's on JDK 21 in QA, awaiting production rollout 🙂 )
