Hi, when using just the lucee.jar in a cfml application that is deployed to AWS Elastic Beanstalk, how do I add/update/remove the various prepackaged extensions. I am preparing to upgrade to Lucee 6 and don't have access to Lucee Admin once the application is deployed.
I would presume I can do something with the .CFConfig.json but where to put this? Do I add it to the WEB-INF folder in the project? It only has the following in that folder: WEB-INF > lib > lucee.jar > urlrewritefilter-4.0.3.jar .htaccess urlrewrite.xml web.xml
b
You'd need to use the env var or seed the deploy directory and warm up the server.
d
Any docs on how to seed the deploy directory? I am not using any containerization. I simply run eb deploy and the whole application is uploaded (via S3) by the aws eb commandline and then deployed into EC2 instances (Amazon Linux) with Tomcat.
m
removing extension is not really a thing (yet) with Lucee. Maybe consider to use lucee-light.jar, that does not bundle any extension or lucee-zero.jar that in addition misses the pieces to run the Lucee admin. That way you start with a blank slade. With Lucee 5 you can define the extension you like via env var as @bdw429s suggested or you simply put them into the deploy folder, lucee then will install them on startup.
👍 1
With Lucee 6 you can also define the the extension you like in cfconfig
here you find an example (for docker) how do install extensions via cfconfig https://github.com/lucee/lucee-docs/tree/master/examples/docker/with-extension i will create a recipe for this topic, give me a day.
@davla here we go, i have created a recipe for installing extensions https://github.com/lucee/lucee-docs/blob/master/docs/recipes/extension-installation.md

@micha this does not seem to not be working in 6.1.1.17. Here is the JSON config. As you can see I have ESAPI and PostgreSQL installed, but both are not working

When I click on “edit” for my datasource connection in the admin, I get this error
m
@artknight i have added your json to a virgin Lucee 6 in single mode and did it run, it did successfully install everything with no issue, so the json itself is correct. Couple of things to consider (i will add this to the recipe): 1. if you run Lucee in Multi Mode (Server and Web Admin enabled), you need to add this into the root of the server context json file located at
{lucee-installation}/lucee-server/context/.CFConfig.json
and not in the web context json file
2. if that is not the case check the log at
{lucee-installation}/lucee-server/context/logs/deploy.log
not only for any error reported, also to see what it did, that log is by default set to info and should have all info about the whole process
a
I am running it in single mode, however, this particular build is inside docker. Would that have an effect?
@micha you were right about the logs, there was an error

no, that should work fine, best do a docker-compose and map the log folder to an outside directory, then you can check the deploy log or any other way you prefer. feel free do share your dockerfile (sensitive data removed), i will have a look

one issue i already see and it is my fault. the extension 3F9DFF32-B555-449D-B0EB5DB723044045:2.0.3 does not exist yet.
i have it locally but it is not deployed yet. so that cannot work
👍 1
correction again, that is the old version of the extension that is no longer provided since we switched the servers
but i will make sure it will be provided again
already midnight here, i will look into it tomorrow
👍 1
a
thank you!!

m
i think with “6E2CB28F-98FB-4B51-B6BE6C64ADF35473:1.0.0.3-SNAPSHOT” is the same story, it is not provided by the update provider
a
do you happen to have the new id for the ESAPI extension?
m
hat would explain why it did work for me
👍 1
a
and also for postgres, if you have it handy
m
they did not change, you can find them here

the ID seems to be the same 37C61C0A-5D7E-4256-8572639BE0CF5838
wonder why it did not install 🤔
m
we will figure it out
a
yes sir
m
@zackster can you also take a look to see if tis extension get provided as they should
z
hmmm, sub optimal exception logging strikes again https://github.com/lucee/Lucee/blob/6.1/core/src/main/java/lucee/runtime/config/DeployHandler.java#L390 is there anything in the exception.log or deploy.log?
that was from the application.log right?
a
no, deploy.log
z
hmmm, does this work with 6.0.3.1
a
no, same issue
tried earlier
do you need the logs?
z
always good!
it's also midnight post football here in berlin, so i have a few beers under my belt
a
lol
z
this is all the extensions the update provider knows about https://extension.lucee.org/rest/extension/provider/info?withLogo=false
a
application.log,deploy.log,exception.log
z
i think this is the problem @micha over and over again... in the application.log
"ERROR","main","07/02/2024","18:34:56","deploy-extension","the extension ESAPI extension (id: 37C61C0A-5D7E-4256-8572639BE0CF5838) in version 2.2.4.15 is already installed;lucee.runtime.exp.ApplicationException: the extension ESAPI extension (id: 37C61C0A-5D7E-4256-8572639BE0CF5838) in version 2.2.4.15 is already installed

this is what we use for the new refactored update provider https://github.com/lucee/lucee-data-provider/blob/main/devops/.CFconfig-download.json5 there's obviously some work to be done to make this saner
m
@artknight step by step first this this was not working
Copy code
{
      "id": "6E2CB28F-98FB-4B51-B6BE6C64ADF35473",
      "version": "1.0.0.3-SNAPSHOT",
      "name": "Ajax Extension"
    },
problem here, that extension does not exist (anymore?) you can see when you call https://ext.lucee.org/ajax.extension-1.0.0.3-SNAPSHOT.lex you get a 403, switching to “1.0.0.4-SNAPSHOT” should solve it or even better take a release instead of a snapshot so “1.0.0.3" (what is the identical code base as 1.0.0.3-SNAPSHOT ) or “1.0.0.5” and of course this works as well
Copy code
{
      "id": "6E2CB28F-98FB-4B51-B6BE6C64ADF35473",
      "path": "<https://ext.lucee.org/ajax.extension-1.0.0.5.lex>",
      "name": "Ajax Extension"
    },
For me that is even the preferred way, because you take out the middle man (Lucee extension provider)
z
hmmm, why we aren't logging out that 404? i thought i addressed that...
m
@zackster 403 not 404, but let’s discuss that in another thread
same story with “3F9DFF32-B555-449D-B0EB5DB723044045:2.0.3”, it was simply missing on the extension provider, i just fixed that (reason was the new websocket extension provider that will be released soon)
a
@micha I don’t even know why I was loading the ajax extension… I have never used it. I am just going to remove it.
@micha @zackster I just re-build the docker container. The deploy.log looks ok now. However, the application.log is full of these type of errors
Copy code
"ERROR","main","07/03/2024","10:49:42","lucee.runtime.config.DeployHandler","the extension PostgreSQL (id: 671B01B8-B3B3-42B9-AC055A356BED5281) in version 42.7.3 is already installed
here is the full log file
application.log
m
@artknight i have created a ticket for it, we will address it asap https://luceeserver.atlassian.net/browse/LDEV-4989
a
@micha I am seeing that you deployed the fix in 6.1.1.31-SNAPSHOT. However, I just build my docker container with 6.1.1.33-SNAPSHOT, which should have included the fix. I am still seeing a number of errors that I think should have been resolved. For instance, still seeing
Copy code
"ERROR","http-nio-8888-exec-1","07/05/2024","11:07:34","controller","No matching function [encodeForJavascript] found;lucee.runtime.exp.ExpressionException: No matching function [encodeForJavascript] found
which should have been resolved by having the ESAPI extension. Also postgres extension does not seem to exist either. I am going to include the three log files for you to check.
If you need to see my
.CFConfig.json
I could upload it here as well 🙂
@micha So it seems that updating the .CFConfig.json extensions to use
path
has fixed all the issues. Its weird that it was not getting picked up without it!
