Hey, who are my ColdFusion Report Builder fans in here? I mean like... you have a shrine in your house dedicated to your love for it. Hired a witch doctor to try and bring it back to life, that kind of thing? Check in on this thread please. ❤️

We use the living crap out of it on a daily basis. We'd developed workaround for it's quirks, and have been able to use it to generate check faces, invoices, receipts, W-2's, 1099's, 1095's, and globs and globs of various formatted reports. I have it's Report Builder CF9 splash screen printed on my bedsheets.
I haven't tried the witch doctor thing yet. Is she on linkedin?

I actually used it for a particular purpose and it worked really well. It had similar features to Crystal Reports which I appreciated for a few needs. I’ve been wondering how other folks have been building “reports” without having to hand-code in HTML and convert to PDF. I know the new CF2023 has much better PDF support, so maybe that’s still the route, but I for one would LOVE if ReportBuilder were updated so that it provided a quick way of generating reasonable-looking PDF reports. Or I’m an idiot and there are better solutions out there for CF that I’m not aware of? 😖

Peter, I was a Crystal Reports specialist about 15 years ago, and they were indeed quite similar in many ways (though RB had the advantages that CF brought to it).

@Mark Takata (Adobe), even though this thread isn't being flooded with responses, after counting hands at some CF conferences, I'm guessing that there are close to a billion CF devs that use it.

That sounds legit Rich 😄 But I mean, you're right, we did ask the crowd at CF Summit who among them had used CF Report builder and a lot of hands went up. And one guy just fell to his knees crying. Poor lad. 😞

I built alot of great reports very complicated ones with Report Builder. I bet there still in use now.
h
hmm, I've never heard of Report Builder till now.

lol, 10 minutes of searching and I still can't find an installer for it. Probably why I've never heard of it. Found this that says to see Installing ColdFusion, but nothing related to Report Builder in the CF installation. https://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/developing-applications/working-with-documents-ch[…]rts/creating-reports-with-report-builder/getting-started.html 🙄

It is long past EOL Hemi. I'm honestly not sure what happened, but it just never got updated past a certain point. I think it was written in Delphi, which didn't help its cause. So updating it was likely just too tough.

The source is on a ZIP drive sitting in an Adobe file cabinet somewhere along with Homesite... Now Mark just has to find that cabinet...
r
I have the installer, and can confirm the lore that it was written in Delphi.

Jim, that room is guarded by several hydra, and a very, very angry hamster. I try and steer clear of it.
h
ahh, okay. The link I posted seemed to imply it's still available/installable.
I still have a Zip drive we can use to load it up if Rich doesn't want to share. haha
m
I am just impressed you have a working Zip drive.
h
Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. I saw it the other day while looking for something. Heck, my computer may not even support it anymore. Didn't they use a parallel port?
m
Erm... I think so? That sounds right. Back then it was parallel, serial and what... PS/2? Then USB came along and we were all like whoaaaaa.

Fellas, here's a ZIP of the last installer to be compiled. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_zh5tmqh9X_Mj8fH0WDn-FJE57ti32IA/view?usp=sharing
