Set Inactivity Card not working as timeout for Cap...
# 🤝help

I am interested in supporting more than one user responses per question, since users can respond with a single text or provide an answer over multiple texts. So I need to support, for example, two (or three) capture cards in a node but with timeouts for each so that if the user only responds with one text, the bot will work properly (i.e., the timeout will terminate the second capture card if user responds with only one text). In searching the botpress documentation with your AI bot, it returned the botpress prescribed solution in the first attachment. I then built the node as illustrated in the second attachment. The node does not work when only one text is entered by the user, as it just waits "forever" in the emulator. See the third attachment. Also, the capture cards do not have any cancellation configuration as described in the first attachment. So my questions are: Am I missing something in how to accomplish the prescribed solution? Or is the prescribed solution not a valid solution? Or is there another way to accomplish my described objective (local node timeout for capture card) in botpress? Thanks! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1481038560755843112/1481038561343180831/image.png?ex=69b1dc25&is=69b08aa5&hm=256619eaeb14a97129114505a4320a34a0a4c247645cc290345177bb7d37760a& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1481038560755843112/1481038561670332466/image.png?ex=69b1dc25&is=69b08aa5&hm=f6d62fa7015022aebc8d7c0d879150488e5324fb8b3e817b9aad9f87847e1b4a& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1481038560755843112/1481038561980452924/image.png?ex=69b1dc25&is=69b08aa5&hm=bd48f76cdbf1c3f075df3ade85cdea8d341e9d526b06b50c80405ded0f2ac7ba&

@nice-guitar-95700 The Set Inactivity Timeout Card does not work in the Studio’s Emulator. It can only be tested by using a shareable Webchat link (or by deploying the bot to a real channel).
Is this behaviour also occuring in webchat?

@loud-crowd-60573 First, thanks for the expeditious response! Yes, that is tested only in the Emulator. I would appreciate if you could also respond to my other two questions, which are most pertinent to me, and guide how I proceed: - Is the prescribed solution not a valid solution? - Or is there another way to accomplish my described objective (local node timeout for capture card) in botpress?
@loud-crowd-60573, I would appreciate if you would reply to two questions just above or just tell you do not know the answer. Thanks!

Hey Gary, did you test in webchat? You had told me you were testing in the emulator but as I said it the inactivity timeout does not work in the emulator unless you enabled "test timeout event"
w
that solution is very bad
speaking from experience as i've tried that myself
the timeout is gonna wipe your workflow variables and a lot of other stuff
including the user's position in the workflow
so you're going to waste a colossal amount of time building around it
if you still plan on handling multiple messages INSIDE botpress you can try this solution https://discord.com/channels/1108396290624213082/1272647969866252453

Shen, thank you for your expeditious answer (saved me from wasting more time) and link to the alternative solution. And yikes, the scope of the alternative solution is huge and the solution is at risk for the future. It seems like a lot of users want this feature. I would hope that botpress will seriously consider adding it.
w
yeah for sure... unfortunately the only way i could resolve that is by making my own message aggregation solution
but that only works if you're only using botpress as a middleman and not as a direct integrator
seems the current infrastructure is designed for bots that are clearly identifiable as bots and as such the user is expected to wait for an answer before typing another message
but it seems they're working on it, since the webchat now has a feature that blocks sequential messages

Ah, great idea about message aggregation! I will check into how doable that is for us. Thank you very much!! Your answers to my questions have been outstanding and I appreciate them!
