68k transparent execution update:
We’re enabling classic Amiga 68k software to run transparently inside native AROS hosted on Apple Silicon. A JIT translates the 68000 code to ARM64, while a generated bridge converts calls between the guest’s 32-bit big-endian world and native AROS’s 64-bit pointers and structures.
Our “waterline” strategy bridges only the seven foundational libraries—Exec, DOS, Graphics, Intuition, Layers, Utility and CyberGraphics. Higher-level libraries run as their original 68k binaries, calling through that common native boundary. Most crossings are generated from AROS’s own interface definitions plus a reviewed type/ownership policy.
Current status:
• 100% classified: all 738 public waterline vectors have an explicit crossing or routing decision.
• 736/738 callable (99.7%); the remaining two intentionally refuse guest-initiated reboot/shutdown.
• All 10 higher-level guest libraries load successfully.
• Deep runtime proofs pass for IFF, MUI object lifecycle, GadTools/events and interactive Photogenics—including palettes, color selection and drawing.
• Photogenics itself was not patched: the fixes improved generic event, gadget, bitmap, BOOPSI and object-lifecycle machinery and were fed back into the generator/runtime model.
• Generator, layout, build and full bridge-regression gates are green.
What remains uncertain is breadth rather than inventory: we have not behavior-tested every callable vector individually.
In short: the waterline is complete and Photogenics provides a strong real-world depth proof; broad application certification is the remaining milestone.
