Does anyone know if MuTools work on AROS too?
k
I dont think anyone has tried tbh - it would be nice to have an mmu abstraction on aros and similar tools implemented in a cross platform way
one thing im working on is porting VMM to AROS
b
VMM? The shareware / freeware virtual memory handler? I loved it, but it was highly unstable on the real AmigaOS. Maybe we can do better now.
k
yes
see workbench/system/VMM
(im trying to abstract the MMU access from the core code so that it can be implemented for m68k/x86/ARM/Risc-V)
b
Should we have an mmu.library with the same API of Thor's MuTools?
you around?
k
sorry was in bed (your last post is ~2am my time lol)
b
Are you in the EU? I'm in based in Japan, but I'm from Italy.
k
Yeah UK
South West Scotland to be precise 😃
I must confess im not too familiar with the API used in thors MMU stuff (although I used it on AmigaOS 'back in the day') - and how tied it is to mc68000's MMU's.
we do already have some MMU related functionality exposed via kernel.resource
b
Ah. I don't know much about the 68030/040/060 MMU... but Claude does. Would be great to get MuForce and MuGuardianAngel running on m68k-amiga to catch memory corruption bugs earlier
k
It may end up amiga-specific depending on how its implemented (not that I object, just for clarity) - it might not make sense for other targets. Though we need some generic way to handle this in AROS code, with the arch implementations hiding their quirks/peculiarities.
