@Nick M I haven't tested this yet, but a project committer suggested this should work:

druid.emitter=switching
druid.emitter.switching.emitters={"alerts":["logging","http"], "metrics":["logging", "kafka"]}

Where you can specify the list of emitters for alerts and for metrics separately. In this example, alerts will be emitted to the logs and to http, and metrics to the logs and kafka. I'll try to find time to test and update the docs, but thought you might want to try it too.
