Hi Peeps! I need your opinion with how to design part of our page; the steps to get a free trial in my product 1. User clicks on
Get free trial
>> Finds a typeform to fill in >> then we contact them within an hour and >> offer an onboarding call 2. User clicks on
Get free trial
>> Gets redirected to a page of 4 steps, (1) the typeform to fill in some info about their business, (2/3) connect their accounts, (4) that within 24 hours they will receive an email from us with accesses (No call) I intended to go with the second way to reduce friction a bit, and hopefully have better conversion. I understand that both of them are not good at the right scale. But which path would look better in your opinion?

Hi @SLA Dive! I’d say it depends a bit on your target audience. If you feel as though those using the Product like the discovery element or are more self-serve, then #2 is your best bet. This is the trend for a lot of SaaS products, as it has elements of PLG which has become popular as a model. This is enhanced if your product is very intuitive and user-friendly; those self service users will appreciate the option to quietly try it on their own. The opposite holds true as well; if it is not as intuitive then abandonment will be quite high for #2 and you’ll likely want to use #1 to provided a more guided experience. I’m only in Customer Success but I’ve done a ton of onboarding and heard feedback from both of these approaches

Automated onboarding will let your customer start realising value sooner, and avoid the bottleneck of human interaction.

IMO, anything needing a human interaction during onboarding shouldn't be a free trial.

If it's a developer product, as a user I do not want to talk to you until it's time to sign a deal. This is not always practical, but it's my default state. This includes forms during a sign up process - the more steps you put between me and using your service for something, particularly steps that make me feel like a prospect being sized up, the more I will reconsider whether it's worth it after all. If your product is intuitive enough, and docs are good enough, then ideally you want instant sign-up so people can get instant gratification. Not every company can afford or wants to make this investment, but if you can I prefer it. So, option 2 with the shortest latency, fewest steps, and avoiding sales people wherever possible.
