Do you wish to keep it as iframe served by you?
a
even self host forever free version will be used via iframe
d
Ok.. There’s the model of all the other editors. Their License is very strict and business organizations have to pay, even if they use the code locally.
a
Yeah just for that reason, we won't deliver local code to pro/commercial users. So that we can track when plan expires or cancels, we can deliver free version directly as it is an iframe.
devs dont have to learn iframe postmessage functionality, we have made file already callled iframe.js that manages, only follow documentation for function call and event handling.
Do you think iframe deliver of our web-app is practical for customers ?
d
Depends on the price.. are you going to charge by traffic or fixed monthly fee per user?
a
Combination of both, eg. free version 20 loads per hour limit or github self host pro version with all pro features 100 loads/hour 10$/month Commercial pro version all features sublicensing + few more thing we are still figuring out, 500 loads/hour or more as requested for $100/month
Thanks for your help @David Meir-Levy.

Sounds interesting.. I worked at a company last year doing a lot of complex editing stuff, and we wrote a lot of custom editing modes using tiptap. Some of them were very unique and needed a “developer touch” and specific behavior. How can this be done with your editor? And also, what about files? How do you manage upload files to the client’s servers?
a
Can you elaborate about which specific behaviour ?
If you are talking about saving file, devs can manage an event on js that provides them with json, they can manage all data in json either to upload on database or into some folder.
d
For example: custom shortcuts and signs that when people type them, it should open a custom dialog with information that will be injected to the content.
How do you transfer a file chunk?
a
We don't manage any file upload excluding image files
d
So what will happen when users will try to drop an image? Which is a very common behavior
a
We have upload image & upload image from url option, that option will serve javascript File Object to developers, dev can convert that into base64 and store it in folder or db as they like !
For listing those images there is another function to show images that are uploaded
If you like I would demonstrate it live, that will help with any questions !
We don't provide devs to customize shortcut to open modal and populate data in our iframe as a feature but devs can add modal and shortcut individually outside of iframe in the page.
