Have anyone worked on client-syncing online presence with Supabase?

it was an honest question to why one bit of software is an issue to comcast but not another, i've used strapi before too, i got one of their devs on my friends list, i wasn't bashing it at all, i think theres some miscommunication due to text not carrying tone or something because its not my intention what so ever

If i may, the main issue here is the sentence above the "why strapi", was your language that i honestly didn't like.

oh a 403..that may not be a server issue then..that is saying you aren't authorised

my supabase space tells me there is more table, as a blank project

the data has not disappeared..you probably cant acccess it via the credentials you gave

can you pass me the exact API request / client code you are running? And which API key are you using - the anon key or the service key?

It was in one of my old project before Supabase's second launch week

Just saw your email..so this is when you are restoring a project I see..yup there was a bug which we fixed a few hours ago..will get deployed in another 8 hours so

in the meantime, I will ask my team members to manually restore your project

my project had already been restored last week and it was working ok

the history is :
1) last monday i found my project at « paused » status. I clicked « restore » 
2) but after one day it was still « restoring » so i sent you an email
3) on wednesday your team fixed the restoration issue
4) wednesday evening it was ok and i could use it normally
5) the another issue occurred, don’t know what, and now there is no more data at all in my Supabase project

the problem is that there is no more data in my project !

can you see the tables in your table editor? our UI has changed recently..so you dont see your tables now when you land in the project

in the « table editor » there is no table

and in the settings / database storage, 0.0MB !! as if there were no data anymore

hmm did you run a recent migration or anything that might have caused this? It is _highly_ unlikely that this was caused by a Supabase bug since we don't directly access your database except for upgrades and those are automated systems..I will still investigate though

on my first connection today on app.supabase.io i got a message in red saying that there was an issue with my data

if easier for you, you can restore my project at the same state as when it was paused - i’ll manage the gap

yup, we have internal backups till July 5, 2021, 07:10:03 (UTC+08:00)..so we can restore to any day during that period

do you know when this data disappeared? cos our daily backups show that the database has been empty since July 29, 2021, 13:08:00 (UTC+08:00)

the last backup before that seems to be on July 15, 2021, 19:23:01 (UTC+08:00) which has the data and I guess the project was paused then

there _was_ a bug with our restore system which we patched a few hours ago..so if the database was empty since 29th July (right after the restore) that makes sense to me..but if the data appeared in the dashboard and disappeared after that, then this warrants more of an investigation cos that should never happen since none of our systems actively deletes data from an existing active project

after restoration last week i did update the data and it was ok during the following hours - i don’t remember exactly when but is was probably on 28 and 29th

and i’m absolutely sure i dis not wipe the data as my JS client app has no such http method implemented

but we need to understand what did happen exactly !

I just took a look and all schemas appear to be empty, i will start an internal investigation for this to see if we can track what happened

I have asked my team mate to restore the db, he will do it soon and get in touch with you

ok - the final explanation is important for confidence in supabase : the data is very important to me, and this issue must definitely not happen again

i’ve lost last week updates, that is enough

there is a shared responsibility model here Air16..for example, if your postgres password or service key is exposed, your database can be hacked too..but if this happened because of the security of our systems, that is something that we take very seriously..I have already alerted the core team members and we are doing an investigation into how this happened. Really sorry this happened and thank you for your patience. I will update you once we have more details.

Do you remember if you turned on row level security for your tables Air16?

i don’t remember, but i don’t think so as i’m the only user

and it is my first time with Postgresql, coming from Mysql world

I see your anon key is publicly exposed on your website and without row level security, any user with the anon key can delete your tables

I think this might be the reason, but give me some more time, I will do a full investigation and get back to you

in the log, do you see any http request for table deletion ?

I've been looking around for some usage examples with realtime where SECURE_CHANNELS is 'true'. I took a look at the slack clone and there all messages are sent to everyone.

Ideally I'd be looking for some docs or examples that show how to limit WS connections to data that is permitted to be seen by that user.

Hmm, i believe when you set RLS on the comments table, the items returned should be filtered to what the user can only see. If there are more items being returned, filter them out server side before returning the data to the frontend

How would you filter out websocket data server side?

Ok, so the standard usage of Realtime relies on provisioning a server?
I was under the impression that it was a hosted cloud service that allowed you to connect directly from the realtime-client

Supabase is open source so you can host it on your own server. They also provide cloud hosted server. I don’t think you need to setup your own server to use event filters with web sockets when subscribing to one of your tables.

You will want to associate comments with the user Id and use event filters to only listen to comment events that are related to the user

Ok, sounds like I need to go away and set it up to see what options it provides. 
I've just been reading the docs and they seem to suggest that anyone can just subscribe to any channel which isn't very safe.

I tried a proof of concept a week or 2 ago, and it didn't appear to support it. We've been investigating alternative solutions for our use case, but haven't come up with anything beyond ideas just yet.

<@!720546026288578592> so terribly sorry, i was moving stuff to my room, the startup is a website designed to leverage the "LFG" scheme (looking for group), users can sign up using google or discord (more coming soon), once signed up, they can browse the supported games (pretty much any game that people can think of), they can view the groups that are associated with those games, subscribe to games to view them on their homepage and join groups (more features to come, development is slow due to it being a 1 man team)
