woah, is this due to on dev or due to forgetting to add a dependency array

Quite the opposite, I added a dependency array but messed up the logic to where it was getting the user on every render, and when the user updated it caused a re-render, so it was an infinite loop

You need to ask help questions in #1006358244786196510 . I don't know if it is just me, but your file is of unknown type and I will not download a file that is not clear what it is.

You need to ask in #1006358244786196510 and need to provide more info on what you are doing when you get it. Also it helps if you type in the error so users can search for it. Have you searched google for that error message with Postgres? Seems to be something wrong with Postgres code. Please do not respond in this thread with more info.

Hello @User Is Supabase participating in GitHub octernship program as a partner?

All partners are on the GitHub website, https://education.github.com/students/octernships, I think pinging the mod/team role is also not recommended as someone will reply when they see the message.

is there, like, a server where we can actually chat about supabase instead of post questions to a discord forum

People can talk about Supabase in this channel, but very often the discussion is directed to a question, hence we are not in favor of that kind of discussion here. That said, as long as it doesn't turn into a long question, you can discuss it here.

as you observed, often discussions involve questions, so it's unappealing to try to have a discussion while trying carefully to phrase everything not in the form of a question

yesterday i observed that dropping an index was getting locked on some query i didn't write for a few minutes that looked like it was writing my big table out somewhere. i could ask "what is this query that was running on my database and locking my table", but then you would kick me out into the forum. i could also carefully phrase it as if i am like "interesting, yesterday i noticed that dropping an index was getting locked on some query i didn't write that looked like this for a few minutes, i wonder if this is part of a supabase backup process" which technically would not involve a question. maybe then you would not kick me out, i don't know

You know, we (mods) have tried a few things, including letting people talk about Supabase-related topics freely (which is what the server is all about, you might say). As a result, the channel became unreadable and unorganized, very difficult to moderate, and 90% of the discussions were help questions. You can see it by yourself: #843999948717555735 I understand your point of view, that it's sad to not be able to ask questions in this channel, and to not have a channel to be able to talk freely about Supabase without having any particular questions. Unfortunately too many people take advantage of this. If you have other ideas, we are open to suggestions.

well, i'm not really sure what is going on -- i haven't seen this kind of problem on other programming chats before. as a kind of random example, i am in the rust (programming language) discord server, which has ~4x as many online users as this one, and is set up in a very ordinary way with lots of topic channels and a general channel, and it's not unreadable at all. like, here's what's currently going on in the general discussion channel -- just a couple people talking about a problem one guy had, with a dozen messages in the past half hour. it also has a help forum much like the one here, with a similar amount of posts, but it's not like people are constantly having to police the other channels to move stuff to the help forum.

looking back at your general channel, you were doing this "one thread per message" thing so it's just kind of another version of a forum, but if i go back to like last february, it didn't look like it was super unreadable? it looked like there would be maybe 2 pages of messages per day. of course, i am sure there are more supabase users now, so maybe it's not representative.

i agree that it seems like somehow there was an unusually high ratio of "newbies asking newbie questions" to "knowledgeable people contributing information" and i don't know what is causing that compared to other programming chats i have experience with. recently, it looks like you and other mods and official supabase team people were actually doing the majority of question answering (in the recent history -- not so much last february with the normal chat)

seems like somehow it must be some kind of vibe difference where other servers are seen as a "place to chat" and this server is a "place to get customer support" or something but idk why or what to do
