Hero please stop spamming the threads.  This is a user help user forum mainly, SB employees come by regularly too, but it is not monitored every minute..  You need only ask in one place.

You already posted in help, and in another’s help question on something else.  You don't need to post general message on needing help in another place, especially with no info on your issue.

I know you are frustrated with not being able to start a project, someone posted right above you about not being able to create a project with a link to the status page and someone answered your post in help with same info.
And spamming probably was not the right phrase, multiple posts in different sections on same thing is frowned on.

On the moderation side, what do you think is missing? we have been trying to moderate as much as possible without making the discord feel like a hostile place, but would love to hear your thoughts on what you think we could improve in that department.

oh mee6 is fine although it doesn't usually seem the most professional. Especially given that supabase is the perfect platform to host something like a discord bot on

so it would be a great showcase of "hey look we run our own discord bot on supabase"

I would like a bit more strict moderation as well. I don’t like the tone <@336465356304678913> used but I appreciate that this topic was brought up.

Here is a couple of examples from yesterday that I would consider on deleting the messages and giving the users a timeout/ban for further offenses. These feel spammy and I think they hurt the quality of the discord server. I get that you don’t want to be rude but I would argue that it’s ok to be strict to people who do not write useful or respectful messages.

i feel like help vampire is a term that should be more widely known and behaviour that falls into that category called out

but yeah some stricter moderation is absolutely nessecary

a not active but actively moderated server is 100x better than just a mess that nobody wants to engage with

I will try to be as transparent as possible. As a moderator, we have a lot to deal with, including things that go on behind closed doors. Remember that this is a part-time role, and we do our best to be available for everyone, while being available for our other tasks (school work as student and internship the whole day in my case). We try to answer as many questions as possible in the <#843999948717555735> channel, try to improve the server as much as possible (see changes in <#951830581354844170>), and try to keep a friendly atmosphere.

I understand your frustration that this channel is somewhat "dead" regarding normal discussions, and know that this feeling is shared with the whole team.

If I can reassure you, actions are already planned to this effect, in order to involve the discord community, and from next Monday!

Concerning the reinforced moderation, you should know that I'm going to abstain following a problem I had with a member (entirely my fault, but I don't want to repeat this same mistake).

Adding discord bots is indeed something that could be nice. We are working on some bots in the background, including one that will allow us to organize office hours, and other similar events. Several channels in this discord are not used enough, and we are working on them.

but yeah. We understand that you guys have active lives and this is not your livelyhood however even slow moderation is good as long as its enforced. That means deleting messages or consequently directing them to the help channel

You're right, disabling threads in general is a good idea. Still need to see if all mods are agree, but it can change a lot!

Honestly i think only <#843999948717555735> is fine

i like threads but they block the conversation and cause moderators and people helping to swap channels constantly

especially with a very quiet server threads don't improve the experience much since its usually going to be one person at a time anyways

if it gets so busy that 3-4 people are asking for help at any given time then threads are absolutely the way to go

but as it stands i think the important point is the strict seperation of channels. Only help in the help section and keeping the respective help topics to their respective channels

You're totally right, and you should know that this reflection has already been up for a month ago now, on 06/05/2022 to be more precise. Here is my personal answer that I gave at that time:

nah you always gotta have a general channel

in terms of successful tech discords i cannot point to discord.js enough

has probably close to 50k members and is never quiet. Dispite them having several dozen help requests at once they still manage (due to a large amount of contribution from the other users)

they have a no bs system where asking stupid questions quickly gets you a bot command reply that points you to the reading you have to do before you can properly get help

they also have a dedicated command just for pointing out when someone is a help vampire and how to get help without making it a problem

That's interesting! We have a similar "auto command" stuff, which is <#885237287280070708>. It's not a real "auto command" but it does the same job 😆

I've always thought help requests should be paid for in some way. So many people ask questions but who can ever sit here and give answers all day.

yeah it seems quite like that is the case

eh if you charge for support then people just won't come to you for answers

paid support is for enterprise communications where the money is worth it seeing as a lot of money is at stake

however just answering community questions is not really something you could or should be charging for

the problem is just the size of the community and activity

it feels very dead and that is more due to a lack of engaged parties more than anything else

I'm not saying paying is the best solution, although if your problem isn't worth a few dollars (if only a token amount, a gesture of appreciation) i don't think your problem is that large to begin with. I just find so many forums are filled with forlorn hope of easy help instead of general advice that is easier and less of a burden, and fun to give out

Usually i don't like giving advice since that is more of a consultant job. e.g if you ask me how to structure your database then you should probably ask someone else if its anything more than a pet project (at which point it really doesn't matter)

I have been tinkering around in the same test project for a couple months and was curious if due to any updates and what not I should start a fresh one. Like I heard there were auth changes coming for example not sure if some of these things should use a fresh new proj if easy to do or doesnt matter

Ok do things like this happen often? Like i see function type stuff and all that in test phases and stuff idk I guess want to time everything to best practice to be built on latest stuff for a while
