Is there anywhere with more complex examples of RLS policies? For example I need to write a policy or policies that involves 5 tables. vendors vendor_users users(auth) and vendor_user_roles. A user should only be able to edit vendors or has the admin role for.

The main thing to remember is RLS policy is just sql that returns true or false.  Next thing to worry about is it likely will get run against every row in your protected table, so performance and complexity need to be considered.

Easiest way to create complex RLS policies would probably be to create a function that returns a boolean and then set that function call as the policy value.

This also allows you to test the result directly (e.g. by simply `SELECT * FROM my_rls_policy_function()` in the SQL console) without having to deal with debugging RLS directly.

Also important to look at in Scott P case of using a function is if it constant when run for the whole table.  You can then define the function as STABLE which means it will only run once instead of rerunning on every row.

This is what I'm looking for.

On Stable...  Basically if the result of the function does not change based on the data in the rows of the table it is protecting.  For instance if you check a count column in the current table as part of the sql in the function then it can change for each row so is not stable.  You want to try and keep that from happening if it is a table with many rows.
Edit: and to be clear, you don't have to have a stable function, it just needs to be simple and fast if it is not and you have lots of rows.

I'm building a timer app that is available on multiple platforms, and the timer ticks down. I want it to sync between all the available platforms

One way of doing this would be to create a row which contains start time and stop time (both including timezone), and an ID to uniquely identify it.

From there, you'd calculate the difference between the current time against the start time (taking into account the local timezone) and then format it as a duration.

You might want to use realtime subscriptions so that when a timer starts or stops, this information is sent to all devices currently listening (and use RLS policies to prevent users from accessing timers they shouldn't have access to).

That way, you're only ever dealing with small amounts of traffic which is good for server and your app performance. As long as the device clock is relatively accurate, the timer will also be accurate.

Thanks that sound similar to what I was thinking. I'd have a property like `isPlaying` that would sync through Supabase, and then each client would know the other details like when the client should start and stop and then update.

I'm actually using a `jsonb` field to make it NoSQL like in Postgres, and I'm updating the entire field with new info which might not be best, should I put this type of `isPlaying` info into a new row/column?

If anyone wants to help me with paid help I'm able to do that, might work better to talk over voice

Yes they are. Supbabase uses https://postgrest.org/en/stable/ in the backend and essentially all views / functions (also called rpc) are accessible with rest.

so i used supabase for my latest project, really helped with the auth
how does supabase do the verification?
because if i try logging in normally, i get an api error
but if i click the link it emails me, it redirects me to my apps login screen with a long token in the url
i dont interact with the token, nor do anything special with it at all
but somehow it logs me in and marks as verified 
how does it do that?

also interesting, i have 7 users so far which means 14 requests right? 1 for signup and 1 for login

I'm not sure what `user_repeated_signup` represents here? if you aren't receiving the magic link it might be due to the emails going into spam. If this is the case then try modifying the email template.
