Is that how the notes were structured before you refactored?

No. they were always a.b.c.d, but I refactored a.y.z to be at "a.b.c.y.z" and now its something like "a.b.x.c.y.z" ... if that makes sense. 😂

In the tree. that's how it looks I mean.

Again, the filenames renamed correctly... without the x.

I can try to keep using it without the tree view for now, but wanted to ask if there's a way to fix it.

I think it does 😄 There are a few things to try: 1. Can you try fully closing VSCode, then deleting the
    .dendron.cache.json
file? It will likely be next to your notes. 2. Is there any special characters, spaces, or anything different about the note names?

No this does sound like a bug, so it would be best if we can figure out what's wrong so we can fix it

Hmm, I see some strangeness in the filenames in that half of the notes are "a.b.c.d" and others are "A.B.c.d" --- meaning the first few parts are caps. would that change anything?

    SeriousBug

It shouldn't, but it could be the cause of the bug. If there aren't too many of them, can you rename them by hand?

    Yes,
  • s

    sirkus

    05/31/2022, 7:45 PM
I could rename them by hand.

Question: The proverbial "A.B" are caps because they are actually abbreviations, so I had set the titles as caps in the front matter. Should I keep them all lowercase?
  • s

    sirkus

    05/31/2022, 7:46 PM
I could rename all the files to be lowercase.

You can go either way with note names and titles, Dendron is (supposed to be) caps-insensitive, so it's up to you.

    Hmm, okay
  • s

    sirkus

    05/31/2022, 7:47 PM
it will be easiest if I rename the lowercase ones to be upper, so I'll do that by hand, but wanted to see if there may be a benefit to being lower

I'll rename and see what happens.

Should I just use the normal "rename" (F2) in the Explorer view?
  • s

    SeriousBug

    05/31/2022, 7:49 PM
That, or just the file explorer in your OS. It shouldn't matter how you renamed them because Dendron is supposed to read all the files after reloading the index

    Great.

Okay, I renamed all files to be consistent with case as well. Then deleted the
    .dendron.cache.json
file. Then restarted visual studio code. Everything looks in line now

Great! I'll take a note to investigate if the mixed caps was causing this issue, we'll hopefully get it fixed. Thanks for bearing with the investigation!

Yeah, I'm not sure if that contributed to the problem or not. But certainly there is something strange that happens in the tree view after refactoring.

Usually, a restart fixes it... this time, something else happened as well.

If I want to move a single note within a vault, can I just rename it to move it?
  • s

    sirkus

    05/31/2022, 8:04 PM
and what's the difference between that and "Dendron:Move" which I also see in the context menu?
  • s

    SeriousBug

    05/31/2022, 8:22 PM
Yes you can "Move" is meant to move notes between different vaults, "Rename" changes the name while keeping the note in the same vault

I'm trying out the Graph view. Very helpful. I've noticed 2 dots / nodes unconnected from the rest, floating down at the bottom. When I zoom in, their names are certainly names of notes, but they're "c" level, in the "a.b.c.d" structure -- so they're not disconnected. Any idea as to why they're floating around down there?
