For example I would prefer

to not show any notes from inside the respective project hierarchies just the project note itself

Because I think at the moment it shows all notes in the hierarchies matched by *

and it also displays errors for in-between non-existing notes

I see that unicode emoji's are supported in the new preview mode. How difficult would it be to add short code support, like in GiHub? My markdown muscle memory has been trained around short codes, but if the level of effort is high, I can retrain myself.

I have a workspace that has stopped working.. I get the error message "Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'fname')" and no tree is shown in the tree view It is a ordinary VSCode workspace that has three dendron vaults in it. I tried removing all the cache-files but still get the error. Dendron preview and backlinks seem to work though. How do I find out what is wrong and fix it?

It's not possible, you can use multiple vaults if you'd like.
