But I am not sure whether there are any unintended side effects! Hence my question...

btw, is path/to/my/dendron/notes the path to the folder that contains dendron.yaml or the path to the vault? When I have tried stuff dendron.yaml wants to be in the parent folder to the vault. Would be nice if the dendron activation magic was documented somewhere 🙂 (maybe it is)

It's the path to the root, not the vault. So the path to the folder that contains the
    dendron.yml
    file.

    Something like this.

Honestly, I think this is pretty cool, because I can access my notes and todo's from any project I am working on.

It seems that after a reload VSCode converts to relative paths, but Dendron still works.

Hi! New user here with a question about non-markdown second brain assets(!) I have only just started looking at Dendron but with its blend of hierarchical and graph methods for linking and organizing, it really grabbed my attention. But it has got me wondering: a second brain is full of all sorts of stuff, not all of which can be represented by mark down files. Images and pdfs are just two examples. Using the pdf as an example: as far as I can see, a pdf is somewhat of a second class citizen in Dendron. So it would never represent a node on the graph. I would have to create a md file with a link to get it included. I'm not saying this is wrong, I'm just wondering to myself, why is the pdf not afforded the same convenience as a markdown file to elevate it to first class citizen status? Would there be benefit in the dot hierarchy for naming pdfs? Would there be benefit in a pdf having inspectable back links? This thinking just came out of me wondering how best to deal with reference material that I want to store in Dendron. I found myself creating a ref-lib folder in my vault and dumping pdfs into it. Then I thought I might create a directory structure und ref-lib to bring some order. Then I thought, hang on, am I not defeating the purpose of using Dendron :)))) So, I guess my question is: what is the best way to track and store non-md stuff? (If I'm talking nonsense, please be gentle!)

You're not talking nonsense (IMO), but I also don't really know what the answer is. Two of my vaults have large numbers of assets: one vault is about music and the notes in it all have multiple images of musical notation; the other is for academic writing and contains lots of notes about articles that I have in PDF format. The task of organising the assets ultimately falls outside Dendron (at the moment), and I manually organise them using a naming convention for them that tracks the full hierarchical name of the note (which instantly breaks if I decide to refactor my hierarchies). It seems to me like it would be a mammoth task for the Dendron devs to undertake addressing this while they are still working on core features of text-centric note taking, but if it were to be addressed at some point I think it would have to be in terms of how "attachments" are handled in general.

Thanks very much for the input especially as you are obviously way beyond the playing stage. As I don't have a huge amount of non-text assets at this stage, for each asset I will try creating a md note that contains a link to the real asset and see how far I get. I guess this may not work well for images you want to publish inline, but I'm dealing mostly with pdfs and just need a clickable link so it might do as a workaround. Will be interesting to see how this is dealt with in the future.

This is what I see when I try to push my dendron vault manually:
    sh
    DBL@Davids-MacBook-Pro-3 ~/typethink/docs/pkm: git push
    Counting objects: 5, done.
Delta compression using up to 4 threads.
    Compressing objects: 100% (5/5), done.
    Writing objects: 100% (5/5), 1.11 KiB | 0 bytes/s, done.
    Total 5 (delta 3), reused 0 (delta 0)
remote: Resolving deltas: 100% (3/3), completed with 3 local objects.
    remote: Internal Server ErrorTo git@github.com:dbline/pkm.git
! [remote rejected] master -> master (Internal Server Error)
error: failed to push some refs to 'git@github.com:dbline/pkm.git'
    DBL@Davids-MacBook-Pro-3 ~/typethink/docs/pkm
Anyone know what that means? A brief search says "git outage"?? but I can sync from another pc, so it's clearly not that.

Does anyone know how to change the Dendron Paste Image config to go from the first output to the second output? All I want to do is remove the first "/" from the image paths. I looked at the config and I thought it would be a matter of changing "pasteImage." But I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

@User We do have plans to allow links to files that are treated as a first class item in Dendron through "proxy notes". We haven't had the time to work on this feature yet, but it's on our plans: https://docs.dendron.so/notes/WCZ1LzhM07Om3KFPERk6l/

I don't think that's possible, please feel free to send a feature request though and we can add an option for that. Just FYI, Dendron does support links to assets both with and without the prefix, so for Dendron itself both should work.

Hi, please I have a question. What makes Dandron different from Obsidian. I started using Obsidian and saw a YouTube Vedio about Dandron. I love VScode and I want switch to Dendron. Please, can anyone convince me to use Dendron over Obsidian ?

A few advantages of Dendron are that it is hierarchically structured, and it scales better when organizing a lot of information. Dendron is also open source. We have a page briefly discussing this on our wiki: https://wiki.dendron.so/notes/a84ff014-e871-445d-9366-d97f1ad882f1/

The reason I want to remove the '/' is because Marp doesn't recognize the path with '/'. Having all paths without '/' would allow me to quickly turn a note into a presentation. I will make a feature request soon. Thanks.

Anyone use asciinema locally with Dendron? Trying to think local first, something like saving the
    .cast
files in the assets folder and then referencing them but I don't think markdown supports them.

You should be able to link to them, but Dendron has no special support for them so you won't be able to view them in the preview. It may be possible if you inject some HTML into your notes to get a preview working, but we don't have any examples of that. Edit: Ah, looking at their docs, the "embedding the player" part might be of use: https://asciinema.org/docs/embedding It wouldn't work in the preview, but it should work in published sites

New to Dendron, and write markdown in workspace, the strange is when I use Dendron:Show Preview, the note preview always in "Loading.." any configuration i need setup after I install dendron (0.86.0) in VC (1.65.2)?

Check the github #issue https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/2214#issuecomment-1029025000 https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/2316 https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/2010 and found few people report the same issue. one of the workaround I found out was open the calendar view from workspace. once calendar is open, note preview is working and from terminal port I can see the running process start populate when I open workspace with calendar open.
