So I’ve got a strange project I’m working on that lends itself to cross linked documents really well. But I’m realizing I want multiple language realizations of each page. Some of these are just page equivalency, so I could probably make due with separate pages. But I’m also wanting to have source texts with line-by-line translation with footnotes and commentary. Any suggestions for making this works with dendron instead of horrible custom xml/sgml processing?

hmm, for multiple languages, using hierarchies themselves would do

doc1.[en|cn|de|...]

for line and line translation with footnotes and commentary, could you do that with block references? eg.

doc1.[footnotes|commentary]

with block refs to specific lines

except footnotes still do not work with block references 😉 (i better qualify this, they work, but not completely as expected, they spill out of the embedded box, with corrections on the way)

Hi ! I have found some discussions and an issue https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/120 related to encryption, apparently it's not implemented in Dendron yet. Meanwhile I was thinking of a maybe simpler option. I am not very sure about the terminolgy but in my use case I think I dont necessarily want to encrypt my published notes but would like to be able to password protect one of them (or ideally a vault or a give hierarchy). I have found this approach to be simple enough to add a password to a given html file https://github.com/robinmoisson/staticrypt I wondered if the git hub action script could be adapted to apply staticrypt to specific notes. Does this seems a good approach or would you have any better way do achieve this ?

Hi, I was exploring PKM tools lately (logseq, foam, obsidian). I can see there is a need to import data to Dendron via "pod". It makes sense to me because of the missing folder structure. However, can I point other "tools" at Dendron folder without resorting to "export pods"? Outside of automatically created timestamps, is it supported/encouraged way?

yeah, that's a high priority item in our backlog 🙂

Something like staticrypt should be compatible with Dendron since we output static notes. Let me know if you get a chance to try this out!

we're looking at being able to put a

dendron.yml

file in an existing folder and having dendron be able to index it. in the meanwhile, all the tools you mention support markdown and frontmatter. you should be able to open up a dendron vault in logseq/obsidian and have most functionality still present

The need to import it elsewhere (Dendron vault) and perceived complexity of schemas pushed me to try other "tools" first. Based on what you have written, I will finally try Dendron, which really caught my interest first.

for markdown, the numbering is automatic so I usually start all numbered list with

Is there a way to link to a PDF and view in vscode like one would an ordinary markdown file?

You can link to the PDF with a wikilink like

[[/assets/something.pdf]]

, but we can't show the PDF in the preview. When you hover over the link, Dendron will offer to open it in your default PDF viewer.

For me this displays the PDF inside VSCode, but I'm not sure how I managed to configure that. 😅 It might be because I installed LaTeX workshop extension

Yes, but I had a 13 item list and had to add a new item 6. Would be nice if everything after it renumbered automatically.

Got it. I think it has to do with how Dendron loads files by default. If you use VScode's default markdown formatter then it works just fine for me (with extension

vscode-pdf

installed).
