Is there a file limit to the vault? I have a collection of 10,000 markdown files in one directory. I initialized Dendron using that directory and Visual Studio started acting sluggish, couldn't find files with Lookup and thought they didn't exist. Try VSCodium in a VM. Experiment with using a RAM disk. Increase the priority of the process. What OS are you using? I could probably make some suggestions for tweaking some services. I'll experiment with your test set when I wake up. Dendron is def going to have some growing pains while it evolves to support stuff like S3QL, MD-JSON, hashmaps, or whatever else the creator decides.

Did Dendron finish initializing? Since that's the first time ever you're opening those notes, Dendron has to parse through every single one. That might take a few minutes during this first time, but won't take as long in the future.

I'm trying out the repository and everything is working fine for me. It did take about 2 minutes for Dendron to initialize, but everything else works fine. Starting lookup is slightly sluggish, it takes about half a second for the lookup bar to come up, but everything works fine after that.

@User At the moment, toggling Show Local Graph on from off also toggles on all vaults. This is, I expect, not intentional. I think the toggles should be independent.

@User Also, refactoring the hierarchy at the moment breaks the links in the graph. They are correct on reload but it probably would be more neat not to require that.

A question: what should one do and do not do with 'root'? It would make more sense for this node to have a topical rather than the default/generic name? Can one modify the frontmatter? The root note content? I presume not the file name? Anything else to know?

dendron should be fine with that number. a few thoughts: 1) make sure they have the dendron frontmatter at the top. you can run

Dendron: Doctor

to add it to imported notes 2) try reloading after the initial index. the first time dendron loads, it indexes everything but on subsequent runs, it loads from a cache

The root note is a special note that comes with every dendron vault. You can't rename it and we don't advise that you create a hierarchy from it. You can add custom frontmatter variables and change all existing variables except the

id

field. You are also free to use the body however you wish.

Tried 1 and 2. Here's what I see: 1) After running Doctor, I have front matter in all 10k files. 2) I exited and restarted Visual Studio Code. Noticed that the pop-up "Starting Dendron ..." appeared about two minutes after I started the editor. It's now been running for about 5 minutes. 3) Can't type into any of the notes while it's in this state 😦 BTW - when I ran Doctor, the offered several choices. I picked the one suggesting that it would add front matter. Amendment: 4) Maybe 15 minutes later, the "Starting Dendron ..." message disappeared. I can type again and adding Wiki links via [[ ]] works. What doesn't work is hovering of the link to get a preview. 5) I close the editor and restart. Nothing is really working again. About five minutes later I see the "Starting Dendron ..." pop-up in the lower right corner. Amendment 2: 6) The vault was in a directory being managed Onedrive. I moved to a unmanaged directory and everything is running must faster now; not great, not terrible. Only remain issue is that I don't always get a preview pop-up of a linked note when I hover over the link.

Running Windows 10 on a Surface Laptop (32 GB RAM) NVMe disks. I think the HW is fast for modern laptop. Not familiar with VSCodium; I'll look that up. Thx.

thanks for running through the test cases. will take a look at this first thing next week and see what's going on here. initialization after the first should be a few seconds at most, will investigate!

Is there a difference between creating a remote vault on github in Dendron and simply running

git init

and

git remote add origin ...

in the local vault folder from the command line?

I just installed Dendron for the first time. My host folder was initialized, but then VSCode requires me to authorize Dendron to run some code. As the same time, the Windows Firewall was also asking if I wanted to open new ports. No other extension has caused such warnings and behaviour. Why does Dendron? Thanks!

Since Dendron creates a workspace for your notes, VSCode is asking you if you trust the workspace Dendron just created for you. @User There seems to be something missing in the documentation for converting a local vault to remote. The last line of the documentation is: "Run Configure (yaml) and add the git remote urls to the repo. the entries should look like what you see below" <-- but there are no entries "below" that I can refer to, which would presumably be examples of how to add git remote urls to dendron.yml

@User Thank you. I'll make these changes. I'm also a bit curious: What is the reason to add this to the yaml file? What functionality does it enable, which would otherwise be missing? I ask because after doing

git init

and

git remote add origin ...

in the vault folder from the commandline, and configuring the VSCode source control settings.. everything seems to "just work" for my use case. This means that I am able to push/pull to my github repo via VSCode (and VSCode tells me when there are uncommitted changes etc.). So I can happily use Dendron from two different computers (both of whom push/pull the vault to/from GitHub). Wonder what I'm missing by not having the remote repo in the yaml file.

I have it configured like @User suggests but don't notice difference in day-to-day handling. What I also use and like now is the

Dendron: Workspace: Sync

command to sync all vaults. I'm not sure if this also works if you don't use that setting. Otherwise the functionality should be the same.

I manually updated to 0.50 but after the "workaround" - I got 0.51 upgrade automatically (as it should have been the case if we were not using VSCodium/open VSX)

Is the 'Delete Note' command supposed to be deleting links to this note? It does not it seems and maybe it should? Or as an option?
