I've already found this article yesterday! Our use cases for hierarchies are very similar. Dendron is the closest tool in terms of philosophy with my project, especially the hierarchical lookup functionality and hierarchical templates(is that what schemas are?) I'll share my project related to hierarchical note-taking in #757779937833779361 Initially, I just wanted to make a transitive tagging system to build hierarchies of abstractions - for example, a node tagged with "Javascript" should be automatically tagged with "Interpreted programming language", "Programming language", "Software engineering", etc. But in the end I ended up emulating most PKM functionality like tags,templates,linking,search,navigation,sorting nodes by their properties, etc. through the use of hierarchical filters.

I migrated from Obsidian to Dendron a few days ago. I have been pleased with the change so far. There is one remaining concern: the import procedure put all my assets in the

asset

folder and for each subfolder I had in the obsidian

asset

folder, it created a markdown file which contains the links to the corresponding files. Before:

// worked in Obsidian
assets/beekeeping/build-a-bee-house.pdf
assets/beekeeping/bee-keeping-101.epub
...

After:

// in Dendron
assets/build-a-bee-house.pdf
assets/bee-keeping-101.epub
assets/beekeeping.md

Is it a requirement to have a flat

assets

folder in Dendron? Does it have some advantage? Or is it also okay to use subfolders . I just want to be sure of it before I add too many new data within Dendron. Thanks!

With wiki links that point to specific headers, is there a way to point to headers with spaces in them? I've tried

You can replace spaces with dashes, we use the GitHub type header slugs

Dendron also strips out any special characters. You can use "Dendron: Copy Note Link" with a header selected to get the correct link.

Also. I noticed that after refactoring my hierarchy back to defaults to get the benefits of "Calendar View" the shortcut "Ctrl + Shift + i" creates a new note but not conforming to the expected format. It produces a new daily note as "daily.y.mm.dd.md" thus not conforming to the Calendar requirements. Whilst clicking directly on a day on the Calendar itself it generates a good one (daily.journal.y.mm.dd.md).

i haven't used dendron for a few months and i could quickly see quite a few things changed and it seemed like my notes got a bit broken (note graph view for instance), so i decided to simply do a clean install of dendron.. i put my old notes back in vault and didn't overwrite the root files, but it seems like the format of the notes has changed a bit

for instance the ID is of a different form now (old ones: e81fa138-f27b-4969-a39e-a5df216dd1c9 and new ones: 9M1zJF86dl3hdXJcJs5w4).. so now i just tried to run the note graph and it gives me a undefined 'title' error (that i can't reproduce now unfortunately)

but the note graph simply doesn't work.. anyway, my question is basically, is there some sort of conversion necessary to the newer dendron format? or do i need to simply copy/paste my old notes into new ones?

Yes, it should work. The easiest way to get the correct reference is to select the header (e.g. double click on it), then use the "Copy Note Reference" command.

Images in your assets folder (local files) should be visible in the hover. Image URL's are unfortunately not, it's a VSCode restriction.

is the header, Dendron strips special characters and replaces spaces.

tells the reference to skip the first thing from the referenced region, in this case that's the header itself.
