If you don't understand the routing in an environment generally MBF will "make it work" but doing it properly and efficiently means using PBRs. There's no right and wrong in my opinion. Depends on the situation and info available.

Exactly what Leee said. e.g. Azure it's MBF default enabled as well because of the way how it all works in Azure. But preferably you would like to use PBR. and if you have a setup which doesn't work well like resources not showing and MBF is flipped ON and a few minutes later it works you know you have a routing problem.
