There is an option to do a "health Checker" it will show VDI
n
nope, not there anymore
what version are you using?
r
Not sure, Just set it up at a clients enviroment. I will get the version
Was it removed in newer versions?
n
i think it was b/c i did a few months ago and it wasn't showing up
however, webex confirmed that its was optimized
r
But how?
n
logs
r
that is dumb by them to remove it.
n
i know
but don't quote me on that yet
let me check my e-mail
r
The PDF from the WebEx team I recieved 3 weeks ago shows this
Page 39
Was it installed like this, with the VDI switch? msiexec /i webexapp.msi /qn ALLUSERS=1 ENABLEVDI=2 AUTOUPGRADEENABLED=0 ROAMINGENABLED=1 /log install.log
n
checking
they tried both enablevdi=1 and =2 and it did not work
r
That is how I installed it and it is working.
What CVAD verison?
n
2203 cu1
r
Did you add the ICA virtual channel in the policy?
n
why do they say "WebEx meeting VDI Plug-in on all thin client computers?" can you not install it on windows 10 or 11 OS?
r
n
we tried that.
r
Did you add these into the new ICA virtual channel security policy? Cisco WebEx Meetings: CSCOMT,C:\Program Files (x86)\Webex\Webex\Meetings\meetingshvdagent.exe Newer WebEx-Teams CSCOTM,C:\Program Files\Cisco Spark\dependencies\teamshvdagent.exe
n
they disabled the policy so all vc are allowed
r
@Nick Panaccio do you have the VDI option that show it's optimized in your environment?
I am not sure what else to check. I used the VDI switch, then I follow the PDF install layout. I then set the VC channels, so I know when it being used from the event logs.
Maybe they removed it and the PDF is outdated since October 22, 2022. I can do some digging and check on my clients side soon.
n
oh
i think i am wrong and your right...lol
r
Oh, something you found?
n
i think we should see WebVDI
no
i feel like you know more than me
lol
r
Na man, maybe just seen more setups and delt with difficult stuff. So I keep notes(SOP for everything)
what is the 1998? Birthyear?
n
i know..i like your notes
yeah
i am old
lol
r
Oh well, I was born in 1983.
n
lol
r
So I been around a tad longer
n
wait
i read that wrong
1998 is the year i graduated high school.
lol
so i've been around longer
r
Oh, then you older hahaha
n
yup
r
98 I was in 8th grade popping pimples
n
lol
r
Roll call @Nick Panaccio, Your needed in the WebEx discussion @Nick Panaccio @Nick Panaccio LMAO
n
lol
r
I bet he is like WTF dude
n
probably..but its okay if he's busy
i wish i had more time to help out here
you guys are awesome
🙏 1
r
I bet he is. But he will see it and give some feedback. He is another sharp one
l
We switched from Webex to Bluejeans so it's been a while since I used webex vdi, but you used to be able to hit CTL SHIFT D I think to get stats and it would say VXME enabled. Also, the screen looked different - the buttons for mute, etc, were below the screen instead of on top of it, I suspect because of the overlay for cam and sharing
r
Bluejeans….. I remember I helped them beta the vdi side. It was definitely better that WebEx imho
j
c/o '98 stand up! 🙌
🤣 1
c
It was pretty easy from what i can remember you have the command line switches for enableVDI. you install the HSD Webex plugin on the VDA and the VDI plugin on the client. You can then run the health checker to see if it is optimized
💯 1
r
@c4rm0 That is what I remember and just went through as well.
n
Keep in mind that there are two VDI components now (unified agent my ass). You have the Webex Meetings VDI plugin for meetings and screen sharing, and the Webex VDI plugin for calls.
And yes, starting up an optimized meeting will not only show "VDI" in the titlebar, but the Webex meeting window will be gray and not black.
💯 1
n
thanks. so if that VDI screen is not there then that means its not optimized?
n
Correct
r
yea
n
okay, let me try a few things and see if i can get it to work.
n
Once in a meeting, you can go to Help\Health Checker\Summary, and it will show you the current status:
That's a good status with the VDI plugin enabled and working. If it's not optimized, there will be an error in Health Status mentioning VDI.
n
but it doesn't say VDI
n
That's Webex for you.
n
i am confused
n
The key indicator is in the toolbar, though, where it will state VDI. If you see that, Health Checker doesn't need to be checked.
r
hmm, I am a bit confused myself now. The white screen I seen, and the screen where it shows VDI and the checks I am used to seeing more. So the question is the black screen that shows VDI with the green check box. Is that now gone? So is White screen is what to check along with "The key indicator is in the toolbar, though, where it will state VDI. If you see that, Health Checker doesn't need to be checked" and "If it's not optimized, there will be an error in Health Status mentioning VDI."
I set this up for a client about 4 weeks ago, and the black screen (health Checker) was there. Makes me wonder if I deployed and older verison. I dislike webex as much as teams
n
i hate webex...teams is much better than webex.
r
haha they are both in the running for the worlds crappy apps. @Nick Panaccio I think BlueJeans is better haha.
Now, Zoom by far is the best. But since the security issue a year or so ago. Companies are like ummmmm NOPE.
n
Yeah, well, you're wrong (re: BlueJeans)
r
haha so you Like WebEx over BLJ?
n
Ray, two different Health Checkers - the screenshot I posted earlier with the green check is from the Webex app. The second screenshot is from within a meeting.
r
Doh! I see now
n
And as much as I hate how Teams is managed, it was better than all of the others in my old environment.
j
Teams redirection for us has been great, as long as users have fresh sessions (single session w10). The reconnect bug is 😠 maddening though.
n
same here
n
That's what an optimized meeting should look like when you attempt to create/join.
n
@Nick Panaccio so you may not see VDI in the health check but you should definitely see it say WebEx-VDI. Is this statement correct?
n
Correct
n
is that documented anywhere so i can show the client?
thanks
n
I'm sure Webex mentions this in their admin guide, hold on, let me see if I have a link.
n
@Ray Davis - Nick just confirmed.
r
Reading it now
r
Okay, well good. I got educated more. Thanks Nick.
n
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
It says Webex Meetings, but it applies to the new unified Webex, too.
r
Ahh, good find. I totally missed that.
j
Smells like a......blog post!
r
For sure.
Nick has all the good knowledge in his head.
n
Hold on, let me get my wife so that she can read this
😂 1
r
hahaha
a
Does all this just apply to just desktop OSs or would this also work on server-based VDAs?
r
Yea that last one is the one I always use. But the first one I totally missed.
n
I've only ever done this on desktop OS, so I'm honestly not sure.
r
Have not tested that, but as a Published Desktop(not published app) I would not see why not
But most of my setup are W10 though. Published apps are for suckers
That was a joke
a
Then I guess I'm a sucker 😅
r
na not you
n
I imagine that server OS is fine, too. The requirements all just state Windows 32 or 64 bit, never an actual OS. Same for the VDI plugins.
But I couldn't imagine running multiple Webex sessions on a server OS. All it would take is one unoptimized connection to bring it all down, haha
r
I ran teams like that, and it was painfull
So @newbie1998 after all the information, is it optimzed?
n
nope
its not
i have rip everything out
and re-install
i'll keep you guys posted.
r
Dang man, well at least you know now.
n
i have to work on tweaking their fslogix settings today
r
Okay, hit me up if you have quesitons on that.
n
thanks man
you guys are awesome!
i wish i gave feedback like you guys do
r
Cool, thanks man
