Why would they?
b
I would seriously doubt it

Just like Purell isn't giving away free hand sanitizer and 3M is not giving away free masks.

Yeah there are a number of vendors out there that are making accomodations given the virus. It's a fine line to walk. On the one hand they are using the situation as a sales mechanism, on the other hand it engenders good will and gets companies to view your solution as strategic. At a minimum I support giving a temporary increase to existing customers to help them cover. Even Microsoft is making accommodations

Remember that everyone has VPN licensing now. Standard is 500 CCUs, Advanced is 1000, Premium is unlimited.

Free? no. Don't see why any business would be expected to do that. As of this week, Citrix is going to have a COVID19 SKU that will be discounted heavily and non-renewable. Just single year SKU for this specifically for on-prem burst licensing. Of course if you need those licenses anyway past that, it won't work as you can't renew them. But for burst for 12 months, they are trying to help. I think that in and of itself is trying to help
s
Oh thats nice to hear and is a reasonable way to be collaborative with the customers given the situation
b
It’d be nice if any of these companies would actually go to a true consumption model for these. Allow month to month. Not really keen on a one year commit for something I may only need for one or two months. It certainly is a step in the right direction and my comment is not just towards Citrix. Other vendors have the same problem.
o
I am guessing with the new Citrix on prem subscription model, you will be able to do burst similar to cloud. But just a guess
d
There's CSP licensing with Citrix which is monthly, but it's tricky if you already have perpetual or even Cloud licensing and wanted to take up additional CSP licenses short term
o
yea, if being handled by partner that is CSP, they are covered. We are CSP in that case for those, but yea that doesnt' apply in the on-prem perpetual customer use case as they can't just switch to that. I think you have to be managing a certain amount or something to switch to CSP licensing if I remember correctly from my MS leads. Not just an temp/easy switch for those not under a MS contract. So this could be good for those strictly on-prem only with no CSP or Cloud burst capability
b
Yeah you can't mix CSP licensing with perpetual. So you'd have to have two environments or switch license models which then you'd have to determine if there is value in doing that
c
Had a customer last week asking this. As a csp I thought of doing the above, potential mix of perpetual and csp in the short term. Thanks for confirming it’s not possible.
TO save you reading it, they're basically committing to selling you more licenses if you need them 😂
