It’s bad enough that we’re telling people not to use it
we just enabled softphones for everyone and already had the jabber client in vdi, so now we’re telling people to use the VPN just for jabber
One of our guys tried it today from a win10 vdi and it wasn’t too bad though, I imagine it would be worse on a shared server os
n
That's what I figured. We're still not set on going the Jabber route, but I'll likely be adding this to my image for users on corporate devices.
This would be on W10 1809 on CVAD 1912 LTSR.
j
Tried it last week with VDA 1912 und Server 2012 R2 -> Jabber is not usable at all. We had better results with the Avaya Softphone client
m
really? I heard nothing but horror stories from a client that tried to get that working in VDI
although they were cloud based for their SIP stuff, not on prem…
l
Definitely check out Ray Davis blog post on Generic USB direction guys. Very relevant right now and very useful. https://www.mycugc.org/blogs/ray-davis1/2020/03/10/how-to-get-udp-audio-in-citrix-vad-working@Ray Davis

m
is there any way to get UDP audio through citrix cloud gateway?
l
checking, I dont think you can
m
that was my recollection, just didn’t know if they had changed it
l
Nope, to the best of my knowledge. You'd need an on-prem gateway.
m
good to know
n
We're all set on the Citrix side of things over here.
Just need somebody with juice to decide if the direction is going to be Teams. Or Jabber. Or WebEx. Or whatever... just choose and let us know.
Just no BlueJeans. That shit is straight up trash in Citrix.
m
don’t use webex right now if you are US, audio was down most of the morning
Teams audio worked
n
We have all of those products, lol
m
use teams, jabber sucks
n
We are in the beginning stages of our O365 migration, so Teams isn't available to everyone yet. That is the obvious solution to me.
I hate Teams, but it's better than the others.
m
I don’t know if it’s just the way we have it set up but I have to log into voicemail, then phones, then accept 3 certificates before jabber will work
waaaaay to complex for most people
n
lol, I literally just finished scripting that damn cert import.
m
I did it on an iphone and got 9 popups
n
Copy code
Function Import-Certificate {
     Param([String]$certPath,[String]$certRootStore,[String]$certStore)
     $pfx = New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Certificate2
     $pfx.Import($certPath)
     $Store = New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Store($certStore,$certRootStore)
     $Store.Open("MaxAllowed")
     $Store.Add($pfx)
     $Store.Close()
}

Import-Certificate "$(Split-Path $MyInvocation.MyCommand.Path)\cert.cer" "LocalMachine" "root"
^Code used.
Ah, this is on Windows devices.

I got blue jeans working. Works well.
Even better with UDP audio. I got avaya working as well without the VDI communitor.

A pro!
r
Setting the citrixaudio service to realtime helps on the vda. I'm been building a emergency vdi environment for that last 3 days. It's all ingraned in my head lol. Thanks Leee
n
Screen sharing was always the issue for me in BlueJeans. It just stuttered badly, and font rendering was atrocious. Never had either of those issues with the other systems.
r
Did you use the VDI version? It was sent to be about 5 or 6 weeks ago. It's better that the original one.
Blue jeans is a bit behind but I have the contacts to the people who is making it happen.
If I had to pick one. Based of my research it would be zoom.
n
No, it wasn’t a VDI version. This was a while ago... and I think I was talking to you about it in another thread?
r
Yes bud you were
It took me a while to get it. But I kept knocking on doors. Finally got it.
Unfortunately when companies purchase software without consulating with the experts that have to check compatibility (us). You go to deep measures to get what you need to be successful. It was tough, but fun as well.
Please install the following BlueJeans app within the Citrix desktop environment: https://swdl.bluejeans.com/desktop-app/VDI/Tech%20Preview/BlueJeans.2.17.791m.msi Local machines is there laptop, personal pc. It is only compatible with Windows  BlueJeans VDI Connector:   · https://swdl.bluejeans.com/desktop-app/VDI/Tech%20Preview/BlueJeans.VDI.Client.msi

n
So both of those are needed in the Citrix image? I'll check it out.
r
One in the image, one on the client. LIke the the HDX RTME pack
n
Is there an install missing then? The above links I assume both go in Citrix, but where is the install for the client's endpoint?
r
Sorry man, The top link goes in the VDA, the bottom link go in the local client
n
Gotcha.
r
Been working 18 hours day. my company waiting last minute, and I am deployed machines left and right 😞
I am tired, sorry if its not clear
tired
n
No worries, I was in your boat 2 weeks ago when I was asked to quadruple the size of our XD environment. 🙂
r
What worse for me, is we have poop software, so I have to do most of them as static desktops
n
Oof
Our desktops are pretty vanilla, since we put a lot in XA. I've been fighting that battle, and will continue to do so.
No, I am not putting Bob's Phlebotomy app in the desktop.
r
ahahahah yea same here
n
We have Cisco Call Manager for our phone system and use Jabber in the image for IM only. Until recently trying to offload VOIP to the endpoint was not possible because we did not have Expressway deployed to facilitate the Jabber/VDI client communication on the endpoint.
Had limited success even with Expressway and VDI client
Then you run into the scenario where if someone connects from an unmanaged device that does not have JVDI client but has the expectation they can make calls, then it'll render server side which has terrible results.
Now that we have more people working from home we're seeing them try to use it for calls/server side. Probably going to have to disable microphone redirection to keep people from trying.
n
That sounds... fun.
n
Jabber is just horrible in general, I hate it. But...we're stuck with it.
n
We deployed it for emergency purposes for CV-19, but only on thick clients.
n
We can't even share images in IM now because nobody took into consideration that when they put in Expressway to enable Jabber on mobile devices that they also enabled the ability to exfiltrate data 💩
So they had to disable file transfer entirely, which is how images are shared in IM
