You don't have a timer/limit with overdraft. You're supposed to work with Citrix to buy those licenses when you go into overdraft. After you surpass all available overdraft licenses, then you get into the timer with supplemental grace period. Last I checked I believe that's a 15 day timer to buy more licenses.
a
so as far as a compliance standpoint once we're in that overdraft zone is it more or less an honor system kind of thing ? obviously we'd want to stay compliant with everything but just curious if sitting in that overdraft zone for an extended amount of time would get us in trouble or if its only when we go PAST the overdraft #
m
Yup an honor system. I believe if you knowingly use overdraft without intent to purchase or aren't in negotiation with Citrix it is a license violation. I've been in overdraft for quite some time, but was actively working on terms/negotiations with Citrix for a purchase.
a
understood. definitely dont want to take advantage of that. so our situation is we're in that mode now as well but have a batch of temp contractors that are going away in December i'm told. I wonder if we stay in that overdraft zone (but dont go over) and come december we'd drop back out of there if we'd be ok. all questions best to ask our account rep im sure

You could also see if they are still offering the 'leased' license option as part of Covid.
a
ahh didnt know that was an option. good to know
r
I assume your using User/device licenses
a
yup
r
Do you employees that dont use them anymore? Becaseu they will stick with the employee for 90 days. You can use udamin to address that. Only if they are not using it anymore.
a
i've gone through and pruned out manually the people that have left and have to manually remove the occassional thin client device that gets pulled in but yup i knew about the 90 day thing. i even tried the trick to clear the cache to zero things out so when it built back up then i'd know it was active people
r
You get a 10% overdraft as well, but the EULA states you need to purshase the within 30days of the first use
Like Matt Allen said, I am just repenting what he said lol
a
thats what i thought. seemed odd that Director wouldnt alert you when you hit there too. makes for confusion
r
Look in the licensing admin console it should tell you
Director is...... still being developed 🙂
a
oh right i know i can look in Studio and the admin console and i actually have a UDAdmin Gui tool on my license server to easily view too. and yup good call on Director
r
At least your asking, and trying to address it. I'v seen companies i helped that would run a daily script to clear it. I was like "Hey I cant touch this until you pony up and pay Citrix" I have morals and cant be apart of that
a
agree'd.......thats gonna bite ya in the ass eventually. you work hard to build up a good relationship w/ vendor support teams so never want to take advantage
more so here was just to get a good understanding if we DO dip into overdraft what that window of time we have to get back where its considered compliant
r
It will get them, yea glad your asking. Shows good morals

a
support probably wont say its ok but i figured since they have that 90 day window (which seems long i thought) it might be fine to clear the cache just to get an accurate baseline right NOW where you stand w/ active users (in our case we have a lot of contractors that come and go so sometimes hard to keep track
