If you want to keep it, go to Azure, or use WebApp only (I know...). If it's not a solution, consider migrating to an other suite... They hold the market, they know it, now they are doing whatever they want. Not really a surprise actually.
d
This affects many of our customers, we are already considering what to do. One possibility could be VDI, currently with Windows 10, then later Windows 11. Windows 11 is the only OS that does not have a support end date. This is definitely a big topic for the next 2-3 years.
d
Still hoping that M$ will deliver support for M365 apps on Server 2022 at a later point of time...
d
Tbh, I don’t think so. Why should they? MS wants customers in Azure with AVD and Win10/11 Multiuser. There is no reason to install Office on a server other than RDSH, it’s just a burden for MS to support it. In addition, there are always problems with Office on RDSH, MS no longer wants to take care of it imho.
n
With the web apps being pretty nice now, we may wind up never publishing 365 apps in XA.
d
This is another possibility. But many legacy apps need addins und have to interact with Office…
s
We are publishing Office Web Apps, you have to be honest, it's not enough in many cases as Dennis pointed
n
Yeah, all comes down to the use cases. For us, it'd probably satisfy >90% of the needs.
And we may really have no choice but to publish it in Citrix, as we now block O365 access from outside of the US thanks to last year's craziness with breaches and stuff.
w
i disagree @Dennis . The AVD team wants you on AVD, but the W365 team wants you on Windows 365. Both consuming Azure resources of course
n
We met with Microsoft last week about one solution, and it turned into them giving us an hour long pitch on Microsoft Managed Desktops. I think they have twelve flavors of the same solution with different names at this point.
r
They announced the same thing for 2019. imo, it's just a scare tactic to get as many people oved over during each release cycle. They will end up supporting it.
c
Is Office 2021 LTSC supported?
d
Yes, for Server 2022 it's supported till 2026.
n
That's the other option - simply running Office (2016/2019/etc) and enabling online services with access to the user’s OneDrive location. In fact, that's actually what we're currently doing.
s
Thanks for input. Main concern is definitely addins and other in-house applications that needs office integration. We will probably ask for a meeting with our MS reps. A lot of customers applications are not ready for a lift and shift to azure.
