Did check with GetuserFTA that this is the correct fta? I have seen with Bluebeam that for some reason the FTA is different on some servers..

yeah i used setuserfta.exe get originally and it was set to .pdf AcroExch.Document.DC but when i ran Setuserfta.exe Acrobat_pro_DC_Config it set it to .pdf Acrobat.Document.DC but when i tried opening a pdf it still opened with Adobe reader. The machine has a file type assoitations xml file being set via group policy so i am not sure if that is overwriting and taking precedence over setuserfta
