I don't recall what update enforce the browser helper update. But at my last place of business, that would happen. We had to build a Enterprise Mode server for Edge and IE. The set the Open in IE mode within Edge with GPO. Another options was to set it to force to open up with IE in Enterprise mode. But very similar to what you linked above.

This Vdisk hasnt been updated in a while (November last year) and its probably not something i have tested or noticed before (opening IE and seeing it getting redirected to MS Edge). I have used the enterprise site list manager tool to create a XML file with the sites to open up in IE standalone mode or IE compatibility mode in MS Edge and that works ok
