Yea I have and the keys typically work. Does it work Correctly when you RDP and run it on the XA server? This is what you tried right? https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX200393/registry-keys-to-check-when-published-applications-or-desktops-do-not-launch-or-disappear-during-launch
k
I did try that no go
its odd since right now it started to work, but last night all the servers stop working. It's so random
r
Hmm dang. That's a weird one.
k
Thanks, I did a cdf to send to Citrix to review
r
You can always try the CAX tool to see if it's seamless flags
Takes some testing though.
k
Yeah but it's been working for a year without any issues
r
Ahh ok.
k
just so random and odd
r
Yea I agree
k
I see in the event log it terminated but no reason why
I hate terminal servers. Just make everyone use full desktop
r
Yea they can be a pain. Another thing I do is start windows explorer on problematic apps when publishing at times for testing. But it goes back to what you said. It worked before
k
Yeah, it happen to all apps and all server last night
but right now it's started to work
r
Oh geez
k
I know I wish it was just one server
I really think it's something with that regions network
s
all apps all servers, something with RDS/Citrix licensing? You can RDP to them all (or launch hdx pub desktop) and launch the apps?
k
all apps in that server, but it will randomly work then later stop. I can rdp to them all.
I will try a published desktop I need to create one
s
and ur RDPing with domain creds? What does the event viewer (Application and System) section say when the pubapp disappears?
k
said it was terminated
I used domain creds for rdp
s
how long does it try loading before terminating?
k
all my other delivery groups work fine just that one region
about 1 min
The Citrix desktop service detected that a user session has ended reason code connection failure
that's the error in the event log
s
does the session stay open or stay in a disconnected state?
k
it does not have a state
s
and it's not jjust you, it's everyone, only on this DG?
k
correct
on all 6 servers
I reinstalled the vda on one server to check
s
what citrix version? Did it every work or just stop out of the blue, or an image update or something?
k
1912 ltsr
it was acting odd for a little bit random
but it's starting to happen more now
and it's the same image we use for the other regions
s
you look at the rest of the DGs and kinda compare the settings? Anything in Studio or Group Pollicy that might target that specific DG or OU?
k
Yu[, I looked at it all
all the same settings gpo and image
s
recreate the DG?
k
I could try that
s
there are some powershell commands that aren't shown inthe GUI, could be something like that, i'd try recreating
k
so far the published desktop is just a black screen
Thanks for the help
s
let's see what it does and if event viewer give anything new
k
no errors for that published desktop in the event logs
s
MCS or PVS
k
none VM
s
how do you provision them?
you said its an image, right?
k
terraform, packer and sccm
template on vmware
s
so you dont use MCS/PVS, you just build standalones?
k
we do not
correct
I wish we did but I will do that later
s
if you whack whack out to the c$\users are there a bunch of stale profiles there, or is it prettty empty?
k
they didn't use upm until recently so there are some left over profiles
s
you check the UPM log at all?
%SystemRoot%\system32\LogFiles\UserProfileManager
k
I did nothing
s
are these machines in a different network?
k
yeah my other regions
they all work fine
i tested them all and ask the region that is having issue to use that
s
pub desktop ever load?
k
nope black screen
s
1912 CU version?
k
no cu
s
if you build a brand new machine and put it in that DG with all the other VDAs in maint mode, does it work?
k
planning to redo everything since we are going to Citrix cloud
ok the pub desktop loaded
took forever
s
you sure you got the registry keys right in the first reply?
k
yes since the registry key was there before my time
and I checked if they didn't fat finger it
s
might want to check director or controlup analyzer for logon duration, see where it's getting stuck
k
yeah
Thanks, let me look into that
the logon process is taking way too long
I think it's something with their network on their end
since its so random when this happens
👍 1
Thanks again for the help
s
app readiness service is started or stopped?
k
let me check
s
would this other region have different AV exclusions too?
k
app readiness is running
s
some have had success with stopping/disabling
k
we use crowdstrike so it works different than av exclusion
let me try that
s
ah, gotcha, keeping hearing that with that product
k
nvm it's not running i had to refresh the screen
s
set to automatic or manual?
k
cylance and crowdstrike is the way to go for av
manual
c
We had similar issue but the app opens after 10 minutes automatically. Director says drive loading is taking 600 seconds. When we looked at startup script we had, it loads some drives. If users doesn't have access to that drive, it waits for 10 mins and continue launching the app. Check in director if it shows anything for the session.
k
Thanks, I tested with an account that had no logon script and it worked
c
Is director showing any relevant info for the users who had issue?
k
director is broken at this place
i have to fix it
c
Look at that script and identify what's causing the problem.
k
that script was made in 1999 and it's really big
but I will look into it thanks everyone for the help
c
Glad to help. 🙂
r
1999 you say? that is funny hearing that.
k
found the issue it was dfs
r
oh do tell
k
They use dfs for each region, and it could not find the regions target path so it routed to the US dfs file share
I guess the delay or not being able to find the path made Citrix terminate the connection
s
dfs is just one letter off from DNS, so i believe it =)

r
@Khanh looks like they are breaking you in good in your new spot.
k
They sure are.
r
Are they at least communicating to you or are you on an island by yourself expected to be the magic man?
