Has anybody switched an on-prem Horizon environment from Subscription/SaaS to Term licenses before? I'm getting a Messaging Clients alert in the Horizon Console (Disconnected, last seen at ...) after changing the license mode. I've already tried deleting the Horizon Edge in the Horizon Cloud portal (Capacity → Horizon Edges) and restarting and/or shutting down the Horizon Edge Gateway appliance. I have also rebooted the connection servers. Is there anything else I have to decommission?
r
are the connection servers actual pairing with the edge device at all before hand?

I've seen this happen as well. Where I have seen it, customers decided to leave it. If you make a support call, they might be able to do something on the backend to make it disappear. Might have to use ADSI edit or something.
r
i've also seen that whole process take the better part of a day or two before it's really ready to start adding CS on the cloud side for the edge too
s
Rob, I think they are going from subscription to term, not the other way around 😉
r
yeah, but that takes reading comprehension and more coffee than i've apparently had on this monday facepalm
s
It's a Monday! 😂 I had to re read the message twice first as well (almost replied as you did haha)
r
that being said, i suspect it might be tied into the periodic nature horizon uses for license checking when on subscription - i.e. if it's renewed for 30d and you decom/switch licenses with 25d left, it might get stuck on that .. but yeah i'd ping support on that one, it's likely some obscure setting in the ldap db

I have created a SR and will let you guys know what support says.

As (kind of) suspected, the cause was a stale entry in the ADAM database. Using ADSI Edit, support had me set the
pae-MarkedForDelete
attribute of the corresponding message client object in
OU=Properties
→
OU=MessageClient
to
1
. This cleared the alert right away and the stale message client entry was automatically deleted after a few minutes 👍

You gotta love some nice work in the ADAM database.
