Hi! Anyone seen performance issues when a application is launched published, but if started in a published desktop it works perfectly? It's an ERP system and when the published application is launched it has terrible lag when dragging windows inside the application so to speak. Also it's blurry, pixelated and overall a bad experience. All this non existent when the app is running inside a published desktop. Ideas? /Robert

if you launch the pub app directly from the endpoint, everything is fine? Have you looked at any of the workspace app registry tweaks for double hop scenarios?
r
Ah sorry, it's not a double hop scenario, rather the app is available in the published desktop as well as a published app. So same server launching the app, published equals terrible experience but opening the same executable inside a published Desktop and all is fine.

Strange, never had this issue, same Citrix policy applied?
s
if you are runnning a published application from within a published desktop, that is a doublehop

Not running the application via Citrix workspace inside the Desktop, published. Just as a normal executable, like notepad or whatever. So no, not double hop.

Same policy applied!
Whatever the definition of double hop is I now tried the app (without Desktop ;-)) in a browser and it works much better. Must be something with the CWA then I guess.

try googling this key, this might help. This would be set within the published desktop
r
Thanks, I'll try it! 🙂
Sorry Steve, I must be very bad in explaining the issue. 😄 This value is for when you are running Citrix in Citrix, as I have tried to explain we are not doing that. This is not a double hop. I have one full Citrix desktop published, from within that desktop the users starts an installed application and it works fine. This is for me a one hop Citrix. 🙂 Some other users do not have access to the full Desktop so they launch only the Citrix published application. Again a one hop! This does not work good at all and you notice it as soon as you type the first letters in the applications sign in prompt, it lags and it's like you have a huge latency problem. So why does the application behave when wrapped inside a Desktop window and not when this is not the case. Sorry, English is not my native language. :-)
s
ahh, i understand, k. Yes, you are right then, you don't need to mess with that registry key then
do they have multiple published applications they can launch? If so, is it slow with all the pub apps? Or just this ERP one
r
Just the ERP one. The app seems quite old, the menu bars looks like something from 2008/W7 era. Also once you are inside the app you have to move forward to different sections by double clicking in a tree. This opens up windows, almost as windows in a Desktop session. When you move the windows around it is as if you are sitting on a 3-400 ms latency. We have upgraded the customer from server OS 2019 to 2025. It worked fine in 2019.

Is this only happening with one published app? Or is it the same experience if you publish say notepad?
r
Only in this app, other apps like M365 work without problems.

@Arthur thanks, I have heard of problems with Intel graphics cards. The customers laptop fleet probably has at least some Intel based graphics cards, I guess. Problem though is that I experience the same on my machine, I can recreate the problem, and I have an AMD setup. Also we do not see the problem if we run the app inside a desktop instead. Very strange this and not something I've ever seen before. Case created, let's see what the outcome might be.
The answer to the problem is (of course 🫣) the CWA. No new version without solving some bugs and (re) introducing new ones. Downgrading to 2507 LTSR CU1 and everything is good, windowed or seamless.

Love the LTSR version for everything.
