Just another LAS question: We provide support services for a customer, with his/her own Citrix licensens, no CSP licenses. Their NetScaler VPX is connected to our NetScaler Citrix Cloud EU Console, purely for firmware and config maintenance. The customer transitioned to UHMC licenses a few months ago. Can I link his NetScaler to two NetScaler Consoles, to activate his licenses? Or in other words: How can I activate his UHCM license, if his NetScaler is linked to our Console?
e
I would suggest deploy a "lightweight" onprem console for licencing purposes located on customer systems and configure the netscaler LAS there....
h
No you need your own console agent, the UHMC is tenant bound. For CSP it's the multitenant node / ORG-ID, and you can assign it that way when adding a new customer - their ORG-ID will then be the same as the CSP ones and be granted NetScaler license -. When they have UHMC it's their own console and if they have fixed capacity it's a offline LAS activation via Licensing cloud. Other option is pulling Console in the datacenter self and not the agent console and use NetScaler Connect but that's also not a nice solution t.b.h.
they can add you to their citrix cloud account for mainteannce /firmware etc. as well via cloud login
e
Agent or lightweight onprem console, that would be customer choice, but yes, it is their licence, their org ID and their Tenant....
h
It's so a "not nice" solution how it's running
got some tenant deletion accounts from citrix as well this week, that by next week the 23th March those would be scheduled for deletion, even valid tenants under CSP but those only had NetScaler and still had their old ORG-ID. sigh... it's almost a science to know how this all works. I would like to have seen a multitenant solution and just provide the correct mycitrix accounts per tenant something like that but not this, customers don't get it, postpone everything till the last, and then oh my I don't have LAS, oh but I have valid support and are up2ate, NetScaler says no, because the old license wasn't a new fixed capacity.. oh sorry I'm ranting alot now 😐 endrant
e
I feel your pain though not even doing CSP...
h
I'm doing both 🙂 even more fun, but yeah it's a mind wrecker

So when we have a SMB customer with 400 UHMC licenses and 1 VPX for ICA only gateway, they still need an agent to talk with their own Citrix Cloud account or an on-prem Console, just for 1 VPX, right? If they decide for the agent: Can 1 VPX talk to two agents at once?
h
correct, no it can't connect to both
LSA is console / agent bound and can only be one.
m
So does that mean, when I switch to their agent, purely for LAS-licensing, I loose the ability, as a Service-Partner, to orchestrate their updates trough our NetScaler Console EU Cloud Partner Tenant?
h
correct, if you want to do that they'll need to invit your citrix cloud account to their NetScaler console service and then you can do it from there.
m
That would be a big step backwards 😕

In General (not only for LAS) One NetScaler can connect to two NetScaler Console's (or more) BUT only 1x Console OnPrem and 1x Console Service (at the same time). Or 2x Console OnPrem, but what's definitely not working, is connecting to 2x different Tenant Console Service Accounts at the same time 🙂 I'm doing that for such licensing things. Customer has UHMC with Console OnPrem for Analytics stuff and connected to LAS for licensing. The same NetScaler is also connected (via inbuilt agent) to my NetScaler Console Service Tenant for Support / Firmware-Things.

@Julian Jakob This would be such an overhead, for just 1 VPX with an ICA Gateway and a SF/Director LB. The Console on-prem would eat more resources than the VPX itself.
