Is there a way to use Cloud ADM to manage licenses...

Is there a way to use Cloud ADM to manage licenses for on-prem NetScalers (VPX) with the new Flexed Licenses? Or am I required to spin up a "Netscaler Console On Prem" - Documentation unclear... Or, is there a good blog on this somewhere?
Ok, I figured it out. This was way easier than I thought it would be. Inside the Cloud ADM under Netscaler..
There must be a min version of NS to use this feature, because this bricked my lab NS. LOL
r
You need the NetScaler Console Agent on-premises to license it.
r
So, what's this button on Cloud ADM?
r
It will take you to your instances, let you select it, and then tell you it needs an agent. 😎 Working with the PMs on a better solution, but that’s where we are right now.
r
Builtin agent no good then? You're telling me I need to build a full on-prem NetScaler Console (ADM) instance at each site to make this work?
r
No, you need to download the minimalist NetScaler Console Agent
j
Are you sure Richard? I'm certain I've used the built in agent via CLI
r
For licensing?
j
Yeah, I had an internal request for a lab environment that did not have LOS to our on-prem Console where licensing was, but did have internet access.
Let me see if I can find in my notes
r
I’d love to see them because according to the NetScaler PM, the local agent does not yet support Flex Licensing.
j
ah this may have been prior to our move to HMC, when we had the old Pooled SKU (last year). That's likely the key there
r
That would really really stink to me
I would have to deploy like 12 of these things. 😕
j
The fact I don't remember clearly makes me think >1 year ago as well...so even more likely

😞

So, basically, it has to exist in here for this to work:
r
Yes. I am working up a blog and hopefully a video.
r
That would be fantastic as I can't seem to find any documentation on this that makes any sense
r
At the World of EUC event so not this week.
r
Jealous. Enjoy! I will lab it up with ADM Agent and see where I get.

Now Richard can add using Teraform to roll your 12 ADM agents to his blog! ;)

yeah, you need the adm agent for flex licensing, the license files get pushed to it from ADM and the VPXs talk to that IP. The inbuilt agent can’t handle it. Make sure you turn the inbuilt agent off too otherwise it may try to register that way automatically to the cloud.

Guess i'll be labbing this week.. Unless builtin is on the roadmap. Eagerly waiting for Richard to return from WoEUC
m
it is on the roadmap from talking with the netscaler product team, no idea exactly when though
r
Yes, @Mike Streetz (O_P) I've been told that too. Until then, I can handle thousands of ssl transactions per second on 2vcpu/4gb RAM VPX, but I need 4vcpu/8gb of RAM just to license. Be glad you're on premises. Imagine paying that for an Azure/AWS vm.
r
I have multiple builtin agents in Azure that i'll now need to build a NC.. Frustrating.. So, how do I disable the builtin agent to migrate it to the stand alone NC?
r
First, adding it to the licensing and moving the agent side are two different steps. The licensing portion is done in two steps. I believe when you add the device in NetScaler Console Service through the agent, it will disable the built-in agent and add in the NetScaler Consoke Agent. In the Licensing GUI on the VM, you will change the licensing to Remote, and point it at the IP address of the agent on port 27000.
r
Thanks man. How is the conference?
r
It is going great. I'm glad I came. I'd love to see this grow into a much larger conference and the go to conference for EUC.

So glad to hear that! Agreed!
