Anyone have experience migrating VPX licensing from pooled to flexed? According to this article the license switches automatically after expiration. Does that really happen? No reboot required? https://docs.netscaler.com/en-us/netscaler-console-service/manage-licenses/flexed-licenses/transition-to-flexed-licensing

definitely not automatic
we had to setup the connection to ADM then provision licenses there
activated the built in agent on the vpx and get them talking to my ADM in cloud

This environment is on-prem with an ADM/Console server already running for the pooled licenses. Thankfully the expiration is during the day so I don't have to be online in the middle of the night to validate if it works as intended or not.

It should be automatic since you’re already connected and licensed from there. Check that your build numbers on both the ADM and the ADC support to automatic switch though.

I need to do this, but we'll switch from on-prem pooled to service flexed... should we first put the pooled lics to cloud and then change it?

I would recommend that your licensing be present on the NetScaler Console Service (Cloud) before moving your devices over. This would permit you to have minimal service interruption. When assigning a new license server, the NetScaler appliance will need to be restarted.

I think I only have the option to assign the new flexed licenses… the old lic term ended already

I recently transitioned from pooled premium to flexed premium using the NetScaler console service. During the process, I noticed an issue with the total allocated throughput in the flexed licensing dashboard. Using browser developer tools, I found that only some instances were contributing to the total allocated throughput. Interestingly, all instances appeared as "Allocated" in the Licensed NetScalers overview (below the donuts), indicating their license status was active. Initially, I waited for a few hours to see if the issue would resolve itself, but it didn't. I then tried reallocating the same throughput to an instance, but that also had no effect. Next, I rebooted one of the instances, which resulted in success; the assigned throughput for that instance started adding to the total. However, this led to another issue where the total allocated number for software instances was incorrect, showing one extra allocated instance. After waiting for a while without any change, I resolved this by rebooting the agents, including the one with the LSA role. To avoid rebooting every instance, I attempted allocating a different throughput number (adding 100 Mbps to each instance). This approach worked successfully. Overall, the process was far from seamless.
Note that this particular setup was supposed to be completely seamless according to the documentation.

Thanks for sharing @Eirik Vesterhus / Intility AS

Update: the pooled licenses expired and the flexed licenses took over with no interruption of service and no manual intervention required.

on what release are you on NetScaler?
e
Netscaler is the latest 13.1 release, Console is the latest 14.1 release.
