Maybe this is more of a General channel question but working on optimizing our new Windows 11 MCS persistent image. All is going great except trying to speed up reboots. One sticking point i'm stuck on is when I reboot and monitor the hypervisor console, it sits at this for 90-120 seconds and not quite sure why yet. I'm just starting to dig into this but thought i'd throw it out here in case anyone else has had luck w / this

Check scheduled tasks. Windows 11 is filled with cleanup tasks at shutdown and startup. Also check for any services/background apps that you can kill as part of a logout so that windows doesn't wait for timeouts on those to shutdown.

good idea....so you are saying some kind of logout task to kill services rather than letting windows handle it on its own naturally? i've been looking at the tasks thing too....do you happen to know an easier way to isolate scheduled tasks that just run at shutdown? so many in there

so looking at the system event logs, each reboot i get these errors/warnings that line up w/ the delay i see. Citrix WEM Agent Host Service, Citrix Pvs for VMs agent Service and Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Service did not shut down properly after receiving a preshutdown control (error) and a WinRM service is not listening for WS-Management requests (warning)

i wonder if this would be a Citrix / AV exclusion thing

i started w/ a fresh 11 image this weekend and mostly same behavior except the Defender error isnt there anymore (just pvs and wem). w/ JUST those installed it delays the restart 45 -60 extra seconds. if i remove them that restart page is 3 seconds. I did open a citrix case but i cringe anytime i have to involve them to how long this might stretch out
