Folks, does anyone have a link to an MCS storage calculator? I have a customer looking to move from PVS to MCS. VDAs hosted on VMWare, they will be multisession (2022) non-persistent. I'm looking a few I built way back and I can see C drive and ID disk.. I think the diff is abstracted.. trying to ballpark how much storage would be required for 40 VDAs. Struggling to recall if the C drives I see on the VMware VMs is linked to the master or a full copy as the option is limited for multisession vs single session, cheers

The C: drives are just a linked, and the identity disk is 16 MB. I recommend using MCSIO and making the writecache the same size as the c: drive and it's datastore should be thin provisioned. For multisession I will usually set the ram cache between 2048 and 10240 MB for best performance. You may need to tweak your image a few times to find the best ram cache size.

Nice one - Thanks, Jeff 🙂

Some of my old notes on MCS Storage sizing. The following formula can be used to calculate the storage capacity requirement for Citrix Hosted Shared, Pooled and Personal desktops using MCS image delivery technology: Capacity required (GB) = ((2 * ImgSize * NumDS) + (NumVM * (VMMem + SusRes + Log +IdDisk + DiffDisk + PvdDisk))) * OF% ImgSize = Size of the MCS master image (2* refers to the fact that during image rollout, both an existing and new version of an image needs to be available). VMMem = Amount of memory allocated to the VM (assumes no memory is reserved) SusRes = VM Suspend/Resume overhead (equal to VMMem) Log = Allocated for VM log files (if VM logging is enabled) IdDisk = Size of the Identity Disk DiffDisk = Size of Difference Disk PvdDisk = Size of Personal vDisk OF% = Overhead factor Dedicated Desktops Capacity required (GB) = (NumVM * (VMMem + SusRes + Log)) * OF%
